All that blather from the NCAA about needing a winning record (i.e. 7-5) to go bowling is, as suspected, hot air.

Quote:The invitation is good only if the Black Knights go at least 6-6.

So, once again, we could easily see a 9-3 MAC team sitting home while a 6-6 Army team goes to a bowl. Nice. 01-lauramac2

Nobody said it was fair.

It's all about selling tickets, traveling well and making money.

If we, as a conference, didn't have the worst attendance in 1-A, we'd have more than 3 bowl bids.

You have to admit that Army had a hell of a team in 2006, with lots of big wins. I don't see how any of us can say that they are undeserving. 05-mafia

This should not really effect the MAC that much. The Poinsetta Bowl wants a service academy. If Army wouldn't be the team, more than likely Navy would. Navy went last year and if Army does not get bowl eligible and Navy does, expect Navy to go again this year.

Don't see them going 500 but that being said I have no problem w/an acdemy go bowling. There are enough renegade programs going bowling w/questionable character that seeing an academy in there would actually be a great thing, imo. Now if the Broncs can cut a deal w/a 500 record all will be perfect.

Read way down the page -

Under an NCAA bylaw that went into effect earlier this month, a team can go to a bowl game with a 6-6 record if a contract is in place before the first game of the season.

Navy is already slated to go to the Meineke Bowl if they are eligible this year. Most likely a 4th WAC team would go to the Pointsettia or someone from the at-large field.

I love Army, Navy & Air Force. If they can strike deals for a bowl - that's a good thing. The MAC had no shot at this geophrically anyways. Good for the Black Knights.
