MrG's Preprepreseason Picks for MAC
West-
CMU wins, but has lower overall record (OOC) than Toledo and NIU which tie. CMU's Defense gets stingy allowing their offense to hold onto tight leads.
East
Akron Tanks Buffalo and Kent Games, but beats BGSU, OU, and Temple. Miami beats them once again.
Kent beats Buffalo and Temple and looks to be in MAC East running until they face BG and Miami.
BGSU and MIAMI tie. Winner of this game wins East.
OU surprises one of the two above and would have been in the race except for the Akron game.
Buffalo and Kent both win two games in west and look better overall. Nearing .500
Being homer here I think Miami will lose out to BG due to way tie breaker is handled, but both will have better records than anyone in the west this year.
Toledo and NIU will be sexy due to OOC wins, even if Miami beats NW and Purdue both which I see as a distinct possibility.
CMU will goto MACC and face BG or Miami. Defense will be name of the game, but Miami/BG win out.
Even though CMU won west they won't get a bowl. Toledo NIU Miami and Akron/BG will get picked and even one of them will likely sit home and watch a lesser 6-6 team get to a bowl.
Solution is for the MAC to win at least 50 percent of their OOC games- this include (especially) bottom feeders.
Temple will get near, but Non-MAC ooc will kill them again.
I forsee a lot of discussion about who deserves a bowl over 6-6 teams, especially when one conference will have 5 teams better than 7-5.

I could see how CMU would be a sexy pick since its ENTIRE secondary quit and its QB will be playing for the 1st time.

BGSU is gonna have trouble in the MAC. They don't have Jacobs any more and with him they aren't much better than Kent State, Ohio, or Buffalo. They will be lucky to get 4 MAC wins this year. Poor D and special teams means mediocre football. Offense isn't gonna bail BGSU out this year.

Did you bother looking at anybody's schedules before doing this? Kent State plays Miami and BG in its first two MAC games.

Are you putting your beloved Snobkitties on the same plane as Buffalo and Kent State?

I think you will be sadly mistaken. The BG defense will be much improved over the debacle that was last season. While the offense will not be as 'sexy' as it has in the past, a veteran offensive line returns so look for BG to run the ball more than the last few years. It will be more of a Josh Harris offense than an Omar Jacobs offense.

I really like BG's and CMU's D. At least CMU has an offense, it's BG I'm suspect about, but I think they gut it out to win one close one and stay in race.

I definetly would not put the Bobcat program on the level of Kent State or Buffalo..Highest coaching salaries in the league, One of the top stadiums in the leauge (and getting better), one of the best fanbases in the league.......turn the clock back 15 years and I would say yeah we are on the level of Kent State or Buffalo.
Specifically on BG, I wouldn't count them out so quickly. They did smoke the Redhawks last season......it was with Omar but still that is tough to do.
I like Phil Steele's pick of Bobcats tied for 1st in the East, but like Vandelay says I don't think its realistic to count Miami and BG out given what they've done in the MAC East over the last 5 seasons.
