Id say brazil will win again this year 04-rock

p.s. i know this board is mainly for niu football, so if theres anything wrong, the mod can just delete this topic.

SOCCER SUCKS!!!!

Nice sport - the biggest event is once every 4 years - and then decided by a penalty kick!!!

That's like playing the Super Bowl once every 4 years and having field goal kickers have a shootout.

SOCCER IS THE BORINGEST SPORT IN THE WORLD!

This "borinest sport in the world" stops wars and it's something that people around the world enjoy.

You are 100% correct. The ignorant people that say soccer is stupid don't even realize that CIVIL WARS along the Ivory Coast of Africa have been stopped and peace made because the Ivory Coast qualified for the World Cup. Give me a damn break and get your head out of your asses and quite being the general ignorant Americans. SOCCER is huge and people don't give it the credit it diserves. You don't see football bring people together from around that world, so give it up and realize soccer is the #1 sport in the world!!!!!!

Pull your heads out of NCAA Football preview magazines and othe things and realize what impact sports and events have around the World. There is more to the planet we live on. Appreciate it.

Right on! 04-rock

People don't realize how much of an amazing sport it truly is.

Here's a stat for all you non soccer people:

From June 9 to July 9th, ESPN/ABC Sports will make more money in that month from World Cup viewers then they do for the ENTIRE College football season!!! That's amazing.

Stat was posted during a preview on CNN Headline News earlier today during World Cup coverage!!!

I find soccer amazingly boring, but when it comes to the World Cup it is interesting. It goes beyond soccer, it is representing your country. I'll be watching and go U.S.A!

I will give it a shot, but at the current time soccer is just hockey with less scoring and less fights.

That's exactly what I thought before I came to NIU last fall, but one of my best friends now is on the NIU Club team and some of his very close friends are on the NIU Soccer team and I've now got a passion for it. Going to soccer games and just being able to support your school at something else besides the sports that get the attention of all the national spotlight is something that I'm proud of and feel good doing.

I'd play FIFA video games over NCAA Football all day!!!!!!!!!

That's amazing! Rock on soccer! 04-rock

It's unlike football or baseball because there are so many things to master....... the midfielder has to learn defence passing dribbling, the goalkeeper, how to stop the ball the correct way and how to read the kicker. In football the pitcher just has to learn how to pitch and what to balls to trow when.....the outfielders how to catch the ball. A qb...... how to read defenses and how to throw.

And since there's so many skills to master a great player only comes around every once in a while, but when he does come his name will be remembered for centuries thousands of fans will remember the name....Pele, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Becham, Totti. Even non-soccer fans know who Becham is! And a great football player has to be truly fantastic to get his name remembered like that! In europe if you ask someone "who's Walter Payton?" they won't know because it's now their sport, but if you ask them "who is David Becham?" they will almost always know. if you come here and ask "who's walter payton"? most people will know, because it's their sport but if you ask them who's david becham? most will also know even though it isnt really their sport because he is truly a great player! what im trying to say is that since a great player in soccer only comes once in a while most people will know his name even though they don't nessecarily like soccer.

I've avoided this thread because I don't care what sport someone likes or dislikes. However, I'm not buying this argument. Each sport has it's own unique set of skills to master. You're really sellling other sports short. Besides if reading a defense and thowing pitches were that easy, I would have been the Bo Jackson of NIU.

Go **** yourself, I'm guess you couldn't run your ass up and down the field once. Tell me how often you'd be able to participate in a sport like soccer.

Football = Turf fairies & I played football for 12 years.

i played soccer for 7 years, its still for a bunch of fairies. seriously, what an exciting sport when you watch for 80 min. and see one goal. the only soccer i would ever watch is niu soccer and that is just because niu is the prefix to that.

on a side note: does anyone else get pissed with that nike commercial that plays take me out to the ball game during the soccer crap?

I use to feel that way about soccer, but once I took the time to watch a few matches and got to understand the rules it is interesting. We all think it's crazy that A-Rod makes $25 million/year.....Ronhaldinho makes $30 million/year for Barcelona!!!!

Soccer has a special league for the best teams in every major league in Europe. That is something that's completely unique to soccer. Then obviously there is intrigue with the World Cup because there is national pride.

I understand that soccer is not big in the US and frankly I don't like the MLS, but the soccer played in Europe is on another level. So just give soccer a chance with an open mind, that's all any of the soccer supporters ask.

Speaking of Ronhaldinho, could someone please clear this up for me. Ronhaldinho is or is not the same guy who's name is pronounced Ronaldo? They are two different guys, right? Ronhaldinho and Ronaldo?
