Birmingham Bowl?
Anyone have details?

I heard it was to pit a C-USA team vs. an alternating Big East/MAC team.

December 23rd at 11:00am. A C-USA team vs a Big East team (pecking order not given yet) with the MAC as a fallback if either C-USA or BE does not have enough bowl eligible teams.

Not a very good date and time slot if you ask me, but hey..........if it helps the MAC in anyway that is a good thing. Just not sure if C-USA or BE will ever not field a team with 6-6 teams being eligible for bowls.

The Big East has had some down years, they only had 4 bowl eligible teams last year and 5 the year previous when 12 games were played. They have their share of "cake" nonconference games but have some surprisingly tough ones as well:

9/2
VA at Pitt
Rutgers at NC
EKU at Cincy- EKU is 1AA but returns nearly all their starters from a 7-4 team that lost 2 games by 10 pts, one to national 1AA winner App St by 8.
Syracuse at WF

For 2 conferences that were at Defcon 5 a few years ago the BE/ACC have scheduled plenty of games this year!

9/9
Iowa at Syracuse- The Orange may regret scheduling this one.

9/14
MD at WVA- Fridgen will have the Terps back and competitive this yr.

9/16
Cincy at OSU
WF at UCONN
Miami at Lville
MI St at Pitt
OH at Rutgers- a Bobcat win here will get the region's attention.
USF at UCF- could be interesting but UCF got waxed last year

9/23
Cincy at VA Tech- is Cincy on a suicide mission this year?
UConn at IN
Lville at Kansas St- this is a game Lville has to win as KSU is among the weakest in the Big 12
USF at Kansas- another game the BE team has to win as Kansas lost lots to graduation and isnt considered much of a factor in the B12.

9/30
Miami OH at Cincy- Cincy is going to have a rough year
Navy at UConn Navy's option attack is tough to stop.
Toledo at Pitt- a rocket win would just about end Pitt's bowl hopes, considering they've already played VA & MI St.

10/6
Lville at MTSU, have to give MTSU big props for getting Lville to play them
in Nashville.

10/7
Akron at Cincy- an Akron win would end any Cincy bowl hopes
10/13
Pitt at UCF- hard to root for either team, whichever losses this will put a hurt on their bowl hopes
10/14
Army at UConn- a Black Knight upset would end UConn's bowl hopes.
Rutgers at Navy- see Navy's 9/30 game plus being at home will make them even more formidable.
USF at NC- have to give USF credit their ooc schedule isnt' a joke, at Kansas, at UCF and this game. 3 OOC road games are tough. 3 Losses would put a big hurt on their bowl hopes.

Several BE teams doesn't have an easy road to bowl eligibility

So the Big East had 5 elgibile when playing a 12 game season......add ND to the mix and that equals 6.

The great question I have is how many bowls does C-DOA now have? Seven Bowls?

1.Liberty
2.GMAC
3.Fort Worth
4.Birmingham
5.N.O.
6.Hawaii 50% (PAC-10 in 2 of 4 years)
7.Houston 25% (One time in 4 years)

Looks like our great friends to the south have 5 solid bowls out of 7.

CUSA will probably be able to fill the Birmingham Bowl every year with a 6-6 team.

Does not look like the MAC will have a chance in most years at filling the Birmingham Bowl....

Don't ever count ND in with the BE, they are too good for that conference in football

ND is too good to join but they share a bowl agreement with the Big East...

Big East Bowls
1.BCS
2.Gator/Sun 50% (ND can take 2 out of 4 years)
3.Houston 50% (ND can take 1 out of 4 years, CUSA can take 1 in 4)
4.Charlotte
5.Toronto
6.Birmingham

Toronto is going to be the Big East #4 selection in most years.

The Birmingham Bowl will die in 3 years. The support just won't be there.

There's not really any support for the Fort Worth Bowl and New Orleans Bowl either. I don't think the Las Vegas Bowl has any real support either.
