Highest Paid Coach in the MAC
http://www.recordpub.com/article.php?pat...icle=1&tD=
Press conference scheduled today at 2:00 PM to announce Jim Christian's new contract at Kent State. Expected to be a $250K per year base with opportunities for more, making him the highest paid coach in the MAC.
IMHO, J.C. is worth every penny and more, which he will eventually get at a bigger program.
Laing Kennedy also confirmed upgrades to the M.A.C.C. over the next few seasons, intending to make it "the most beautiful arena in the MAC."
( Zips fans will be thrilled to know we are replacing the scoreboard.)

Congrats on the upgrades, I was very excited when BSU decided to upgrade. How soon are the early plans expected?

Sorry, but not the highest paid coach. Ohio's Tim O'Shea makes $255,000 per his new contract last year. I think they are referring to O'Shea's old salary before the extension/raise.

BTW, the rumors on the MACC renovation are that the lower bowl will be changed to all arena style seat back chairs. My personal wish is that they tear the roof off and get rid of the beams in the upper section that obstruct sight lines above the 10th row or so. However, that's not happening.

Is there any place where they publish this information?
Also, what about football? Who are the highest paid football coaches in the MAC?

I'd like to think that paying Jim Christian 250K would be enough, but it isn't. When a good MAC coach leaves for a bigger paycheck, that paycheck is normally in the neighborhood of 4-600K. When he gets that offer, 250K won't be enough to keep him.

The bigger point is who gets the most for their money? I would have to go with JC on that one ;-)

Orange Blood or whatever your name is,
You are correct but JC probably does not or will not just make $250K. I imagine that he is really making close to $300K. And yes, someone will come along and offer $400-$600K. What the $300K does is make a coach think twice about moving just for $100K more. I am sure that Gary Waters will tell you that $300K in Kent Ohio is as good or better than $500K just outside NYC. If and it is a big IF, a coach is happy with a certain life style and program. it will take MORE $$ to cause him to move if he is already able to become a millionare. The diffierence is, for the programs paying $100 to $150K, there is no chance of having a coach think twice. Heck he might just up and go to Georgia Pacific Masonite.

Green doesn't become you.
Besides, I'd argue that at 89-40 in his first four years in the MAC, and only the second coach in MAC history to have four consecutive 20+ winning years as his first four years as a HC, J.C. is worth it.
That aside, we can agree on two things. I'm glad O'Shea is staying at OU. I'm glad Christian is staying at Kent State. However, I suspect for different reasons. ;-)

But is not this another way of saying that we are going to have FB but we do not care the outcome? I think that it is becoming obvious that the MAC can not continue to pretend in FB. Maybe I am speaking more specifically about Kent State. We need to show an increased commitment to FB as well. O, maybe not. Maybe we should just drop it. I really am in favor of investing in a competitive program.

From the Akron Beacon Journal today
Quote:Tim O'Shea of Ohio University had the biggest contract in the MAC in 2005-06, but his total compensation of $250,000 included incentives.

As we are supposed to be excited about a third bowl game either playing hte sixth place CUSA team or teaching Canadians to like mid major football, the MAC appears quite content to pretend in football.

Agreed. Those beams suck. It was really difficult to read the scoreboard. That was the worst thing about your arena.

This has nothing to do with this whole subject, but the only other MAC coach to accomplish this feat was Ball State's Dick Hunsaker. Here's the amazing thing, in those four years, Hunsaker never lost back-to-back regular-season games.
