On paper, the auto bid for conference champs is bad for the MAC. Even under old rules I would expect MAC champ to get into NIT when not selected to NCAA.

I still like the rule, though. It gives teams control of their own destiny in 2 regards - regular season & conference tourneys. Even if one outcome is NIT. It is more inclusive and more interesting that way.

Now the sub-.500 allowance stinks.

yeah the sub-.500 allowance really stinks big time! but i'm glad to see that they didn't use it this year. i'm still ticked that we didn't get an NIT bid, despite what a certain Ohio "fan" may think.

oh well...bring on football and volleyball! ;-)

Well at least the MAC didn't get screwed too badly by the NIT this year, we deserved at least 2 teams.

=>But for the automatic qualifier rule, Ohio U. would have made it.

You know, in most years the current setup with the revamped NIT would have been advantageous for the MAC. This year our 4th, 5th, 6th, etc. teams simply did not perform as well as in the past. Therefore I'm not so bummed by getting bumped by the regular-season champions of the low-majors.

Also note the Selection Committee didn't pick one team with a losing record. I'm wondering whether they backed off and/or teams rationally declined invitations.

I also think teams who have fired their coaches should not get invited to the tourney. Why should such squads get to play in the post-season when their schools have deemed their season a failure?

=>Does that mean IU should have declined the NCAA at large invite? ;-)

Hey, works for me!!!

Of course in Davis' case, he resigned and was not fired. I believe that was the same case with Gary Waters at Rutgers.

And yes, I realize some will say we are dealing with semantics. The committees best consider the teams and the nature of their departures on a case-by-case basis.
