While I'm not surprised you were the first to post this Torch, I have to ask, how can you be pissed about this? Shouldn't you be happy?

I'm unhappy that this was basically a slap on the wrist, with no incentive for Ohio St to do better. Meanwhile during that time, how many times did the MAC send more than 1 team to the NCAA tournament?

Ohio State acknowledged the violations orginally, turned themselves in, let both coaches go, gave themselves a self impsoed ban, will pay back $800,000, will take down banners, and have limited on campus recruiting.
I wasn't aware they were responsible for limiting the number of tournament bids the MAC receives.
Am I off base here?

It may seem like a slap on the wrist and maybe it is. But one thing I like about this penalty to Ohio A & M is that it hits at the program's pride. They have to take down their banners and erase any references to their NCAA bids for those four years. You may say "so what," but living in Columbus, I know how much pride is associated with this overblown and overrated school relative to its athletic programs. And having to take a hit like this is like, as one of their assistant coaches said in today's Dispatch, being hit in the heart with a shotgun. lmfao

Ohio St built up their program by cheating. They won games, affected strength of schedules and "perception" which apparently is more important to the selection committee than any tangible metric.
Do you think they made money from their final 4 appearance? They didn't have to "return" that.

Ah yes, the unstoppable, difference-making, game-winning MACHINE that Boban Savovic was. Wouldn't YOU have cheated to get him?

How about they return all the money from Final Four licensed gear?

lmfao Ohio State=Marshall. "We self reported our blatant cheating". Only difference is Ohio State is more important to the NCAA than Marsall is so it is a lighter punishment.

While I think that Jim O'Brien should have been fired for the violations, the recruit to whom he gave $6,000, never played a game at OSU. So, the most serious of these violations were for a guy who never played for OSU and another who was a role player. Remember, OSU was also banned from postseason play last year, when they would have been in the NCAA tournament.
People are really pissed about this because Thad Matta has now taken over and brought them back to the top of the Big 10 and in the top-10 in the nation. If these violations had been handed down to this program when they were a middle of the pack Big 10 team and an annual bubble team for the NCAA Tournament, no one would even care.

not to nit-pick, but OSU wasn't banned from post-season play last year. The University imposed that ban upon itself. just a clarification.
