VanDelay's MAC Basketball Power Rankings
VanDelay's MAC Basketball Power Rankings for 01.22.06 are now live at VanDelaySports.com. With a couple of major upsets this week and some other top teams losing we have had a lot of shakeup as well as a new #1.
As always, feel free to discuss below.
BTW - I expect to post a new article on VanDelay tonight that I think Golden Flash fans will really enjoy...

I notice the points. Who votes in this poll? OU lost at NIU. KSU won at NIU? Guess we will see...

Very nice article, IBOG. In case you haven't seen it:

Lots of people who have not seen The Flashes miss the point on this team, and to some degree this article does, too. Defense and rebounds are the reasons we are winning. The four seniors get their share of credit ,but it's the "kids" that truly spark The Flashes. It's guys most people in the MAC have never heard of: Knight and Scott are rebounding machines, Scott is quicker than lightening, and with arms the length of the State of Florida, a defensive pest. Youngblood is backed up by a JUCO guard no one ever heard of -"O" (Omni) Smith who isn't very big, isn't all that fast, but comes off the bench to pop jumpers as smooth as a baby's behind. Jordon Mincy is Haynes' back up, and some onthis board would argue he's a better PG than Haynes. I'm not one of them, but give Jordan another year and it's close.
J.C.redshirted two recruits some of us are excited about, and along with the mysterious "Q" factor, The Flashes promise a entertaining team next year ,too. So we should be picked, oh,about fourth.

The OOC losses are the only thing keeping Kent from passing Ohio for #2. All 4 voters put Kent #3 and I know myself and another were very tempted to put them #2. This week will tell us a lot about ALL of the MAC East.

I'd prefer that everyone continue to sleep on us and tell us we're rebuilding. The D's are going to keep this team in every game (Depth and Defense). We have 4 options on the front line (Gerwig, Warz, Knight, & Scott) and 4 guys on the perimeter (Youngblood, Smith, Gates, & Haynes) and a freshmen to spell Haynes when he gets his normal lapses with ball handling.
6 different guys have lead this team in scoring during various games. This versatility can pick people up when they have down games and the pressure to score isn't on one individual.
