UALR men's basketball coach Steve Shields was one of nine coaches who gave presentations at the National Junior College Coaches Association coaching clinic in Las Vegas, Nev., last week.
Shields was preceded on the program by Bobby Lutz, head coach at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte and followed by Lon Kuger of UNLV.
Shields spoke to the gathering of coaches about the defensive philosophy he employs at UALR and gave details on some defensive drills and out-of-bounds plays that the Trojans use as well.
Also on the program were Jay Herkelman, coach at Coffeyville (Kansas) Community College, the alma mater of Trojan point guard Zack Graber; Thad Matta, the newly-hired coach at Ohio State University; and Wayne Baker, executive director of the NJCAA.
