CMU advances to National Wrestling Duals FINAL FOUR!!
The 7th ranked (#6 seeded) Chippewas dispatched 23rd ranked (#11 seeded) tournament host Northern Iowa, 23-9 in the first round.

Then CMU outfought 3rd ranked (#3 seeded) Oklahoma, 19-15.

Next up tomorrow (Sunday): 2nd ranked (#2 seeded) Minnesota. The winner plays the victor of top-ranked (#1 seeded) Oklahoma State vs. 13th ranked (#12th seeded) Nebraska for the CHAMPIONSHIP. The losers of these tilts play each other for third place in the tourney.

#22 Northern Illinois and #27 Kent State both lost their pair of matches against higher ranked teams. Hopefully these MAC squads can fare better during the consolation rounds tomorrow.

great job CMU! big wins!

OU knocked off North Carolina State tonight, 25-13, in the Convo. Cats move to 5-4 in duals; Wolfpack is now 6-3.

Correction: NIU and Kent St are out after two losses. As are all but six teams.

CMU lost a heartbreaker today against Minnesota, 20-15. The contest went down to the last match, where the favored Gopher heavyweight wrapped it up.

Two matches were preliminarily "tied" at the end of regulation. One bonus point, however was earned for the Minnesota wrestlers in both cases for "riding time". If either of those would of went to the Chippewas, CMU would have won and advanced to the finals against Oklahoma State.

CMU is now grappling against Nebraska for 3rd place.

The 7th ranked Chippewas finished on a disappointing note, losing 21-10 to #12 Nebraska. Just like the previous dual with Minnesota, CMU just couldn't win the close matches. Four matches went down to the wire, and Central lost all of them. Split 'em and the Chippewas would have won.

On the bright side, CMU finished fourth in the tournament, its highest finish ever in the National Duels. This weekend, they also beat the highest rating team ever in a dual, defeating #3 Oklahoma.

This year's team still has a chance to do something special at the NCAAs. Plus, with only three senior starters out of ten grapplers, Central Michigan can be expected to remain a Top 10-15 wrestling program in the coming years.

Minnesota just upset #1 Oklahoma State in the finals, 21-14. OSU had won this tourney three years in a row.

You better believe this just gave hope to seven other teams that they can win an NCAA championship in March.

Oklahoma State - still the favorite

The contenders:
Minnesota
Illinois
Nebraska
Michigan
Central Michigan
Iowa
Oklahoma
