Addition by subtraction?
CMU's starting 5'8" and 5'9" CBs are transferring. Part of the reason appears to be dissatisfaction with criticism by the coaching staff and the fact that the starting positions would be up for grabs in spring ball. Also leaving are three reserve CBs. One is 5'8" and rarely played, another is leaving to pursue a degree in music closer to his home in Texas (good luck, young man), and the third I'm not sure about.

This will hurt depth, and the coaches are obviously hunting replacements on the recruiting trail. Experience will obviously be lacking at first. However, the guys being targeted are a little taller and will be Kelly's alone; at least three of the departing DBs were originally recruited by Mike DeBord ( :outraged: ) and "saved" as part of Kelly's first time-shortened recruiting class.

Here's the good news: our CBs were the weak link on an otherwise solid CMU defense this year. Perhaps the replacements will be an upgrade. Time will tell. I do know this: 4-7 in Kelly's first season is better than Debord's ( 04-chairshot ) best record (4-8), and 6-5 in year two is a solid step in the right direction. Despite the defections, I have the best feeling going into an offeseason that I have had in a long while. 03-cloud9
