Don't usually see MAC teams other than UB get mentioned so i thought i post it for ya'll.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

• USC-Notre Dame was the most stirring conclusion to a college football game I've seen this season given the magnitude of the circumstances. Next on the list is Akron's dramatic win over Northern Illinois in last week's Mid-American Conference championship game. In case you missed it, a dehydrated and disoriented Domenik Hixon, the Zips' star receiver, begged his way back onto the field and caught a 36-yard TD pass with 10 seconds remaining. The conversion kick gave Akron a 31-30 victory and the first bowl bid in school history. And to think the University at Buffalo gave the Zips fits for a half.

• Someone has to explain to me how Ohio Unversity wins the Mid-American Conference basketball tournament last year, nearly beats Florida in the NCAAs, returns all the key players off that team but receives only four votes in the opening AP poll. Same with Bucknell, which received five votes and still lags well behind Syracuse despite a win in the Carrier Dome. But there's no bias against mid-majors.

• Warde Manuel, the UB athletics director, ought to give Hall of Fame guard Joe DeLamielleure an interview if he can't convince the candidate of his choosing to take the head football job. DeLamielleure, who applied for the position twice before, swears he could turn the program around. He'd certainly give it an identity.

Joe D- the former Browns great. That would be a good hire. He would get great press here in Cleveland.
