because most people don't think of Toledo as a 1AA school like they do with NIU.
Most people think we are 1AA? That is news to me.
Actually most people have never even heard of NIU, and outside of the MAC if someone hears the name NIU they think 1AA. Im sorry you had to hear it from me G, normally I try to shelter you from such cold hard facts.
And Toledo is that team that has burned ESPN everytime they pump up a "big" game.

You're still my pudding cup, TJ.
Everytime Dan??? Toledo has won some games on TV and they have lost games on TV. It sounds like someone is jealous because their cute little compass school never gets pumped as a big name for a big GAME.
I forget, who got picked up for regional ABC coverage this year? Hint - it wasn't Toledo.
It wasn't NIU, it was Michigan.
And your point is? When Gameday was in BG it wasn't because of BG, it was because of NIU.

More people know about NIU then Toledo.
No it was because of NIU and BG, who did the gameday crew pick that game, BG, who won that game, BG, now don't go crakcing on BG, thats OUR job!
And your point is? I don't care who they picked, if NIU was not Top 10 and unbeaten and have not of beaten Alabama, iowa State, and Maryland would they have been there? No

My point is that if you weren't playing BG, then they probably wouldn't have been there (Maybe if it was Miami or UT), do you seriuolsy think if you were play at EMU, cMU, WMU, BSU, KSU, ect. they woyld have came. It was the combination of the teams, sure NIU being ranked as high as they were helped but that wasn't nearly the whole reason.

If NIU had even 1 loss, they arent at that game. You right though, BG was part of the reason.

Hey Robert Novak,

Why wasn't NIU televised with Marshall? :D
Because we were building a winning program without cheating. It takes time.

Now follow closely because I know this is difficult for you Toledo Grads to understand;

Multiple posters claimed that Toledo was more well known than NIU, and that many knowlegable fans outside the MAC think NIU is 1aa. This was stated as fact. The arogance I refer to is regarding those statements.

I simply posted many examples as to why I believe you are wrong.

You offer up starting NFL players and an SI article..is that all you got?

Well if that is all you got then the facts say NIU gets more national exposure, equating to a better known team.

This is a funny thread to read. Hey, I'd argue that BG is right up there in national exposure with NIU and UT, if not more, the past few years, due to Urban Meyer, Omar Jacobs, and 2 straight bowl wins in consecutive seasons. Now back to the UT NIU pissing match :)

I would guess that the three most recognized MAC teams are BG, UT, and Miami. Marshall was at the top when they were still in the MAC.

I agree with that. No disrespect to NIU, but outside of the great season they had when they beat Bama, Marlyand, Iowa State, and started out unbeaten, they haven't done much else national exposure wise, outside of the bowl win last season. Personally, the only thing that I remember NIU for was that long losing streak I believe they had a while back and a RB named Lashon Johnson I think.

Please name one quality opponent BG has defeated in the last two seasons?

You Ohio guys are in your own little fantasy world.

If you ever happen to get west of Fort Wayne you will find very few college football fans pay much attention to BG or Toledo. Granted everyone has heard of Miami. Not only do they have football tradition, but they also have a very large alumni base in the Chicago area.

Read his post again. THEN post. You are completely misrepresenting his statement.

Exposure is basically getting your school's name on the national media. How many times has that happened this year?

BG did it with Omar and the hype surrounding him. About four weeks ago BG was getting national media attention at their "underacheiving season."

I have TX buddies telling me of bets placed on BG because of what they read about Omar.

NIU has not gotten the same exposure as BG. What was wrong with what mossmaidi stated? Was it that it damaged your delicate sensitivities?

Back to the p!ssing contest.

O.K.

I'm done pissing.

NIU won the west outright.
NIU should beat Akron.
NIU will get a bowl bid.

Why does NIU care about Toledo and our possible bowl bid???????????

Because you got screwed in the past?

Guess what? There are more bowls and there is more parity than in the past.

Get over it.

Your comments were fine, except they are made in a vacuum of 2005. In 2003, Michael Turner received a great deal of exposure, and our early run got a lot of attention. Our #10 initial BCS ranking was the top non-BCS school BCS ranking at the time, and that got a lot of attention. It was enough to get ESPN Gameday to a big MAC game. So, yes, BG has had more hype this year, but NIU has had as much, if not more, in the recent past.

niu79's point is exactly that you're living in that vacuum if you believe that NIU is a nobody and everyone nationally knows BG and UT like they do USC. I've got just as many anecdotal stories about people betting on NIU as you do about BG, so they really aren't worth much. Suffice to say that plenty of people know about NIU, especially in the coaching fraternity, where McCarney respects the hell out of us, Friedgen doesn't want to play us ever again, Carr would rather not invite us back, and Randy Walker won't dream of scheduling us again. And oh yeah, ask Mike Shula if he enjoyed the way we exposed his 4-1 ranked team.

Good points. But I was referring to BG's exposure not only in 2005, but in 2002, 2003, etc. under Urban Meyer, and now with Jacobs. Certainly NIU has gotten tons of exposure, and not taking anything away from that. But if BG wasn't ranked in the top 25 the same time that NIU was when Gameday came to BG, they wouldn't have come at all I believe. You had two ranked MAC opponents that had or have had exposure up to that point.

When Toledo beat Penn State however many years back, that seemed to put Toledo on the football map. Since that time, NIU has beaten Alabama, Iowa State, Maryland and a then undeafeated BGSU team. NIU is in a media market many times the size of any other MAC team. NIU also has a larger student population than many if not all MAC schools.

That is why people even outside of Toledo Ohio know of NIU. :ownd:

Since NIU is in Toledo's conference, they must be 1-AA also.

Not too many 1-AA teams play on ESPN four times in one year, have a four page article in Sports Illustrated or have a full page article in USA Today the day of the their first game.

Believe me, pal, the world does not revolve around Toledo, no matter what you and Jamie Farr think.

Wow this thread appears to be a 5 yr old kid debate on which school is more well known.

But I guess with G-String involved, I'm not surprised.

Most folks don't know that NIU is in the same conference as Toledo.

I ran into this guy today, I think his name was Rick Chryst or something like that? Anyways, I asked him if he ever heard of NIU and he said "no". Im not sure how that story fits in with this discussion, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
