CONGRATS on a great win; you guys continue to get better. A win at YSU is quite an accomplishment; they have a good football program.

04-cheers

We didn't play our best game and still left there with a win. It's excusable since it was our first game of the season, hopefully we'll come out stronger as the season goes along and we give everyone a very tough game. Great win for our guys!

First games are always dicey; the greatest improvement for a team comes between games one and two. You guys are doing great and will only get better. I look forward to you guys playing SBC football next Fall.
04-cheers

Ahhhh. And pray tell why Sunbelt fans would take particular interest in this game? Go ahead. Just say it. Get it out in the open.

Exactly what I think MaXx. No more, no less than what you answered....It could almost be viewed as a conference game, given both programs are SBC members in all sports but footbll this year.

Not to take anything away from FIU and their win, but Youngstown has been on a steady decline the last several years since their coach left for Ohio State. They haven't even been in the playoffs in the last few years.

We know that, but we've lost games just like this last season because our team was not able to shut the door when it was a close game, it was always blamed on inexperience. This game was the first time we did that and we are damn proud, it's a sign that our team has matured and will be able to snag some victories. Even if YSU is in a steady decline, FAU barely escaped with a win at Youngstown last year, and we've seen what they've done so far. FIU fans are very excited about this victory, because even though we played sloppy, we won the game. Who knows how we'll play after getting that first game under our belt and work out the first game kinks and jitters. Believe me, this isn't the same team you destroyed in 2002 during our first year.

I would say the majority of the knowledgable FIU fans know this. At this point, it seems YSU is nowhere in the radar of where they were used to be in. However, it is still a big win for FIU, given its short and negative won-loss record, particularly on the road. FIU is still in its growth process, and we take any tangible improvement as a shot in confidence for our program.

Your team has been really impressive this season, with the great game against Kansas St. and the shellacking of Concord; some experts are even beginning to tout WKU for the IAA National Championship again, I read. While I certainly do hope for a win against WKU, I honestly don't expect it to happen. What I do expect is to give the Hilltoppers a fight, something we couldn't do in 2002, when you guys clobbered FIU 56-7, I believe. Just like some YSU fans believed, some in your board still think "FIU sucks", but don't expect FIU to be like Concord this weekend. While I haven't seen our first game this season yet, I've seen the improvement our team had from Year 1 to Year 2. I expect more improvement from our team this season, but what do I know. We came out of the first test this season with a good score, yet not great. Time is our best ally at this point, given our youthfulness.....
