I must have sleeping more than usual lately, but I haven't heard anything from anywhere (other than this message board) about WKU joining the MAC. Don't get me wrong...I think WKU would be a great addition to the league, but where is this coming from? Just curious.

thanks!

WKU will gladly bring all sports to the MAC. The MAC WANTS WKU for basketball.

Bobcat Backer I don't know if you are new to this board or not but we talked for weeks and weeks about Western Kentucky joining the MAC before it was announced that Temple would be coming in for football only.

Representatives of the MAC league office visited Western Kentucky on a fact finding mission some time ago and requested information from the university that could be reviewed by MAC presidents. Newspapers in Kentucky printed a number of articles about WKU moving to the MAC. We even had a number of WKU fans joining in the discussions on this board.

At this time, it is assumed Western Kentucky will join us in all sports when they move to 1A in football. And that won't happen until they upgrade their football stadium. Since that is still a couple years away, all talk about WKU coming into the conference has dried up. There has not been anything new to talk about.

Many on this board are looking forward to having WKU in the MAC - I include myself in that group. For the time being - we wait.

Like all other MAC stadiums, more than want to attend.

IMHO the first season WKU joins the MAC in BB the conference will stop being a one bid conference forever.

The stadium will hold 27,500 once the renovations are complete.

Below are a better view of the sketches with a couple additional:

midlandchip,

thanks for filling me in on WKU and your discussions prior to me joining the board. yes i am new, so i missed all of that. i appreciate you telling me!

i would like to add my (premature) welcome to WKU! I think it will enhance the league greatly in all areas, especially men's basketball. I'm ready to head down to Bowling Green, KY right now! ;-)

Looks great.....I happen to think that WKU to the MAC is a very real possibility (esp with some of the attendance issues (sorry DG) that persist with a couple of the MAC's football programs), but apparently there are academic concerns so the MAC Presidents are not sold on their inclusion.

P.S. the final capacity is fine, but seating for 5,000 on the away side is going to look awfully small.....I'm guessing that if you go from endzone to endzone you'd only need 25 rows to get 5,000 seats......Miami's old away stands (which were torn down this past off-season) had 30 rows and seated around 6500 or so.

I believe the 5K side will have chairbacks(the lower section of the other side may also). This should give the appearance of a larger section.

" but apparently there are academic concerns so the MAC Presidents are not sold on their inclusion."

It is my understanding that two(2) presidents used the fact that WKU is NOT a research institution and owns a CC as an excuse to keep WKU out. It is also my understanding that those same institutions also happen to have the most inferior athletic programs in the MAC. That is just what I've heard.

I do NOT believe you will see WKU in the MAC.........unless someone can work the presidents over.

Ride or Die Top: That's not how I heard it....perhaps you can clear something up for me. Does WKU have a "Junior College" of sorts either right down the road or under the control of WKU that serves as a "feeding ground" for underqualified (i.e. props) student athletes? I guess that there was a concern that WKU has an operation similar to Marshall in that regard, which was raised as a concern as the last thing the conference wants is another "Marshall".

WKU Future Stadium looks nice. Looks like a great start for them transitioning to 1-A Football. When WKU makes the jump, I would like to see two conferences formed here. The Eastern Athletic Conference and the "New" MAC where they could match up each other in another bowl game (Toronto Bowl for example).

Also could have scheduling agreements in Basketball.

EAC (Motor City Bowl, GMAC Bowl, Toronto Bowl)

Miami
NIU
Toledo
BGSU
Ohio
Add: Army, Navy, VMI, Tennesse Tech

MAC (Toronto Bowl)

CMU
WMU
EMU
Buffalo
Temple
Kent State
Akron
Ball State
Add: W. Kentucky, MTSU

Army and Navy are OK additions, but VMI and Tennesse Tech?? You have got to be kidding me!! Neither of these schools are close to being 1-A in football, especially VMI (have you seen their stadium or been to a game?--trust me on this one).
