Its a bit early for basketball news, but I went to Friday's Midnight Madness event at the MAC Center. As usuall, all the wacky entertainment stuff was going on which seemed more boring than usual; not much to say on that.
On the men's team:
Everybody that was due to be back - was back.
1. Antonio Gates looks as strong as ever (WILL be the team leader this year)
2. Eric Haut put on a ton of weight, not sure if its weight or muscle; probably trying to immitate Huffman's weight program of last year and I'm not sure its going to help him any.
3. Matt Jakeway and Brandon Roach (6-7") both looked like they can help the club this year, especially Roach, who's a wide body.
4. The 4 Freshman signees were all there ready to go; from what I saw DeAndre Haynes and Cliff Brown both looked like they could play right away (especially Haynes)- these two will be BIG players for Kent (if they stay with the program).
5. Edwards looked much more confident and prepared; Gerwig put on even more weight (280?).
Everybody else was there including Merrit, Wilkens, Brian Howard, Pallagrino, Bedford and the other two Freshman Armon Gates and C. Williams.
Should be another fun year; of the two College Basketball magazines I have read so far:
Lindsey's - has Kent picked 3rd behind Miami and OU in the MAC East.
Street & Smiths - Has picked Kent to win the MAC East.
I think OU and Miami will be the teams to beat with the Flashes hanging in there.
