That was an amazing game! Beating the Heels in the Dean Dome had to be the thrill of a lifetime for the Bobcats.

Look, everybody beat the Tar Heels last year. That was no upset...and nothing to be overly proud of. Apparently N.C. had a bonanza recruiting class and will soon be, again, well above our level...Yes, I do hope that we can be at N.C.'s level via progressive growth over the next few years. But last year was a fluke; it's unlikely that we will consistently be a better club than Tar Heel.
kit-cat, what is wrong with you.

UNC and Ohio had basically the same RPI in 2001-2002. So it was an even matchup, but it was at Chapel Hill. And we didn't just beat UNC, we were blowing them out by 20+ points. We dominated them. UNC had plenty of individual talent, they just were not organized on the court.
I think Ohio Basketball should strive to be the number #1 team in the country every week. If schools like UMass and UNLV did it, we can. You only need three good players in basketball every year and your stacked.
The key for next season would be to make a post season appearance, something we haven't done in 8 years. Keep the program moving forward.
OHIO FOOTBALL, I live the Bobcat life. Pedantic study of Peden. I pray toward Peden 3 times a day. Then I put on an Ohio Basketball Jersey and read out loud from a hoops media guide for my Convo Cleric Sermon. I drink water from plastic Ohio concession cups, and subsist on a diet of green beans and white rice.
My hair is a natural Bobcat Brown, and my personality is like a scrappy cat. When I was young, I put my paws in the air (defensively), when angry. Everybody thinks I look cute, like a kitty cat. <img border="0" alt="[pooh]" title="" src="graemlins/pooh.gif" />
There is just not much that I can do about it, OHIO FOOTBALL. I hope you can understand, and I apologize if I've offended you.

Both UMass and UNLV later had serious issues with the NCAA.

Kit-Kat, no worries...My objection is probably two fold: 1) General frustration at the lack of MAC championships and good, competitive teams at OHIO...and, perhaps paradoxically, 2) your insistence that we can compete nationally in a quick manner. While I agree that we should strive to be nationally competitive, I think you might underestimate the time that this will take. It's just not that easy. Being at the top of the MAC should be the first goal--and that is a tough goal these days....You are quite correct in that it only takes 3 fine players to be a national power in basketball. But if that is so easy, how come others don't just get to it? Your desire and devotion is solid. You need to be a bit more patient/practical until we've taken the first steps....Also, yes the victory over Tar Heel was a good one. No doubt. But that was not a very good team last year....So, what is your take on BKnorr and the prospects for OHIO FOOTBALL this year?

As for quickly becoming a National Power in basketball Gonzaga is a recent example. What about Kent State? They are pretty much a National Power in my eyes having been to the tourney 3 out of the last 4 years including a run to the elite 8. And dominating the MAC the obvious first step, which is something we could do, even this year.
Since we play in the MAC, we should demand to finish at the top every year. A new coach should get it done, no questions asked. Urban Meyer did it at BGSU, Stan Heath did it at KentSt. Why should Ohio be deserving of less?
As far as next season's Ohio Football addition is concerned, I think we will be a .500 team give a game or so either way. Having EMU, Akron, Buffalo, and NE at home should make for a strong home record this season, that will help attendance in the future. The Marshall game is a possible upset.
I expect we take out Kent on the road and maybe BG. UCF and Miami will probably be too much on the road. Of cource UConn will be beat, with no experience returning from last years squad. I think will play Pitt and Florida tough. I don't forsee an upset of Pitt because they have plenty of time to prepare. If it was later in the season, we would have a chance to sneak up on the Panthers. Florida will be tough, but I think we can keep the score relatively close, within 30 pts. or so.

KC...In some ways the fact that bg and kent and redhawk/wally did it indicate that we can be nationally prominent if we are at the top of the MAC. In other ways, it points out the difficulty of getting to the top of the MAC--kent and bg and hawk are tough--as well as staying at the MAC top.
I think your football prognosis is pretty accurate. Except that I really have doubts about this team--primarily due to the head coach--after last year..and, we lost all of our starters at linebacker--which was already a bit of a weakness. And, staying within 30 of FL is, unfortunately, not very likely from this perspective. I hope that I'm wrong. I'll be very sad if we can't win at least 4-5 games in the MAC and a couple of the non-conf games. But that is not a standard of excellence. That's the bare minimum that we should expect. The very least standard. But, after last year's debacle...
