RECAP.....
Randy Walker returned to a rude
homecoming as Miami of Ohio buried Northwestern 28-3 in the
season opener for both schools.
Walker starred for Miami as a fullback in the 1970s and coached
the school to a 59-35-5 mark over the previous nine seasons
before taking over for Gary Barnett at Northwestern.
His prize recruits went 10-1 last season and shined today as
Travis Prentice rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns and Mike
Bath threw a pair of scoring passes to Sly Johnson.
Prentice carried 33 times for 151 yards, including scoring runs
of nine and 23 yards as Miami went ahead 14-0 early in the
second quarter.
The Wildcats got on the board on Tim Long's 21-yard field goal
with four minutes left in the half. Bath and Johnson hooked up
on a 15-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter and a 73-yard
scoring play in the fourth.
Bath was 11-of-18 for 252 yards for the RedHawks, who improved
to 5-1 all-time against Northwestern. Under Walker, they handed
the Wildcats their only loss during a magical 1995 season.
Damien Anderson carried 32 times for 128 yards for Northwestern.
Nick Kreinbrink was just 9-of-29 for 126 yards with an
interception and was sacked five times.
