I know UCF hasn't proven a damn thing in the MAC yet, but my goodness, at least we've never lost to a 1-AA team since moving up to 1A.
How embarassing.

They're ranked as a Tier 2 university. They have the top graduate research program in the conference.

Buffalo was invited because the MAC thought there was potential in the Buffalo market, which is pretty much a pro sports town. Buffalo has high academic credentials, and a beautiful football stadium.....in fact, one of the well heeled alums is trying to give the school millions to upgrade its football program but he wants the name changed to something like NYS University....RF would have all those details.
As for losing to IAA's, unfortunately it's happened before (Kent to YSU comes to mind and I think BSU lost to a IAA a couple years back). It shouldn't happen, but it does once in awhile. What I found encouraging last night is that except for the LeHigh game all the other MAC teams (even re-building ones like the Chips) blew out their IAA competition, and some of those IAA teams were supposed to be pretty decent this year.

How are the Chips rebuilding? Don't they return something like 26 starters? I'm expecting them to be tough this season.

Oddball, there you go again with actual facts ......you know I just post on generalizations! (LOL)
Anyway, I probably should've said the "unproven" Chips because just because they have lots of starters back from a team with a losing record doesn't necessarily translate into wins the next year.
As for the Chips "re-building", I'd say that their entire program has been in something of a "re-building" mode lately....hey, isn't that another generalization? Oh well.....

A little more insight into Lehigh...
I browsed the pre-season Sagarin ratings, and he has them ranked #95 in the pre-season, which is ahead of several MAC teams, 3 CUSA teams, and a few other notables such as Duke, Nevada, and Baylor.
Also, they are ranked a mere 4 places lower than Div 1-AA power Appalachian State, Marshall's opening opponent.
This is not to excuse Buffalo from losing to them, but the outcome isn't much of a shocker considering that Lehigh is projected to be a good team (by 1-AA standards), and Buffalo lost some key personnel from last year.

eCK, it's true what you say about 26 starters from a mediocre team. I just have a feeling about them this season. They should be a solid team, imo.

Oddball and EcK,
Part of your answer: we beat EKU last season 42-28. This season, we beat a comparable - or better? - SHS team soundly (34-10) and were never really threatened. That shows progress. Vickers had a good night at QB (17/28, 208 yards, 3TDs/1 Int) and showed overall improvement. That's more impressive, when you consider that SHS has a veteran secondary. Our #3 and 4 RBs combined for 209 yards and a TD, and the OL did well, considering we started our third string RT <img border="0" alt="[Bang Head]" title="" src="graemlins/banghead.gif" /> . The defense allowed a mere 32 yards rushing and held the BearKats under 50% in passing.
Wyoming will tell us more...

Lehigh is a non-scholarship I-AA team, plays in the Patriot League. A very weak league that they dominate.
They have won their first I-AA playoff game the past two seasons (beating Western Illinois in 2000 and Hofstra in 2001).
Lehigh, App State and Sam Houston are clearly the best I-AA teams playing MAC schools this year.
On another topic I gave them and Sam Houston State as the best chances of beating MAC teams. At least I got one out of two. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="smile.gif" />

On another note: The Independence Party gubernatorial candidate offering UB millions to change its name to NYSU is NOT an alum, I don't think...
