In our fourth installment of football recruiting, we'll look at some of the top running backs CMU is recruiting. I would full expect Coach DeBord to sign one, possibly two RBs for the Class of 2003.
1) Marcus Woods (5-8, 180, 4.4) of Farmington Hills Harrison - Outstanding prospect who combines speed and power. Gained more than 1,500 yards as a sophomore and over 1,700 as a junior. High school teammate of CMU TE Dave Condeni. Woods would be an absolute gem for any MAC program, but is most likely headed to the Big Ten. Known suitors include CMU, WMU, EMU, BGSU, Toledo, U-M, MSU, Iowa and Nebraska.
2) Lance Johnson (5-10, 190, 4.5) of Detroit Murray Wright - Rushed for 1,636 yards and 10 TDs on 135 carries last season. Made first team Class A All-State as a junior. Perhaps the finest RB prospect coming out of the Detroit PSL this season.
3) Kemp Luchie (6-0, 180, 4.4) of Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern - One of the top prospects coming out of West Michigan this year, Luchie is very elusive. A product of the same school as CMU OT Dean Zarafonetis, he is a top MAC prospect and one of CMU's primary targets.
4) Anthony Robinson (5-11, 200, 4.6) of Detroit Crockett Tech - A punishing runner with a solid frame to add more weight. Robinson is the type of big RB who flourishes in CMU's run oriented offense. A high school teammate of CMU DB Dennis Doe.
5) Anthony Jackson (5-10, 185, 4.55) of Birmingham Brother Rice - Another in a long line of Div. I-A prospects for this school. As a junior, Jackson rushed for 1,060 yards and 11 TDs. He is a solid MAC prospect.
6) Joe Novak (6-1, 175, 4.55) of Warren DeLaSalle - A tough, hard-nosed runner with good quickness. Known suitors include MSU, Wisconsin and a host of MAC and Ivy League Schools.
7) Steve Parker (6-1, 235, 4.65) of Chicago St. Rita - Tough, powerful RB from one of the top programs in Illinois. Cut from the mold of Terrance Jackson and Dion Shields. Known suitors include CMU, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin and Kansas St.
