Great post Knightshift, it brings all the pain right back =(.

It reminds me of the game against Utah State last year, Utah State isn't Auburn of course. But UCF should have won that game and was driving for the winning score when our fullback got hit and fumbled in or near the redzone.

The year Marshall's team plane crashed coming into Tri-State Airport. That was a terrible time and jolted our community and the world.

1998 - 4th Quarter versus N.C. State (Season Opener - Hurricane Earl, I believe?)

We were coming off an 8-3 season, had a ton of seniors and were primed for the best season of Bobcat football ever.

This was a game, going in, I knew we should win, but I still took great joy in seeing us build a 31-14 lead deep into the 3rd quarter. After getting torched by Torry Holt once, then giving up a long drive, our lead was a precarious 31-28 late in the 4th.

Everything's fine though, we just need to run some clock and get off a decent punt.

Whew - The punt is away! Now, barring a miracle... What?! Holding? Where, exactly? Somewhere downfield? Right. Nice job, ACC refs.

We have to punt again. The rest is history.

Other than the dredging up of horrible memories, this was a great topic, BTW.

Oh, guys, and did I mention that it was Oddb@stard who hit me with that full beer can?

Anyway, the topic can't be too bad, because other than bashing the lack of common sense on the part of Khrushchev down at FUC, this is the longest active thread.

Goat porn, anyone?

Free cheese...brie, even?

My worst fan experience was only 2 short years ago in Buffalo...

BG played poorly throughout the whole game with the Bulls but still led 17-13 late in the 4th quarter. Buffalo, who at this point had lost 18 games in a row and was a 21 pt underdog to BG, started a drive from their 20 yd line. The Bulls simply marched down the field like the BG defense didn't care (which I don't think they did anyway!)
I can't remember the Bulls RB that broke off a 27 yd td run with 1:25 left in the game. Our O got the ball back one more time and promptly lost 4 yards in 4 plays and gave it up on downs.
Watching the 5k Buffalo fans going wild at our expense was too much to bear. BTW, it started raining in the 2nd half. Walking out of the stadium I saw BG's Prez Dr Ribeau and shouted to him to fire Blackney.
The ultimate low happened only moments later when Buffalo fans (of all fans for cryin' out loud) started screaming at BG fans including yours truly. "Go back to Ohio you sh*%heads" and "BG sucks big time"!!...it was easliy a 15-20 minute walk from the stadium to the lots but it felt like a 5 hour walk. I was the last one left, in the pouring rain, in my parking lot, drinking a few Coors Lights thinking "This has to be the worst moment of my BG Football Life!" Yes, Chips fans, even worse than the infamous '94 fat punter game. Blackney resigned the next day and we skidded to our worst season since 1953 with a 2-9 mark, ending with a thrashing at the hands of the ut rockettes on national tv...
Also, losing to Kent in 1999 after the Flashes had lost 16 straight...Kent had a 17-0 lead less than 5 minutes into the game and led 31-6 early in the second. It was Kent's first victory since beating, you guessed it, BG at Dix stadium in '97 29-20.
And that's about all I have to say about that...

It was the early 80s. I was about 14 or 15 years old. I was in Fairfield Stadium for a late season game. It was FREEZING. The wind was fierce! The Herd was just winding up its umpteenth three win or less season in a row. Furman was pounding Marshall late in the fourth quarter about 45-7. I was sitting near a group of about 15 Furman fans. We may have been the only ones left in the stadium. The Furman fans were chanting, "It's great...to be...a Furman Paladin!" I was shivering and thinking, "It's not too great being a Herd fan." Things were so bleak for Marshall in those days. Many thought the school should drop the football program. For some reason I can specifically remember that game as my rock bottom point.

Come to think of it FalconFreak, the 2000 Buffalo game WAS worse than the 1994 MACC.

I was there, too. After the gun sounded I got to watch 12 year olds yell obscenities at our men in orange and brown as they left the field for the tunnel. "You suck! Go back to Ohio. Bowling Green sucks!"

This, after Buffalo just ended an (approximately) 19-game, 30-year losing streak against Division I-A schools.

That was worse than the 1994 MACC. Far worse.

I hear ya RF...it was downright brutal. I think we returned the favor in fine fashion last season with a 35-0 whitewash at Perry...28-0 at the half and I was thinking to myself "This is much much better" LOL<
"Far worse" sums it up...

GO FALCONS!!!!

Ya know fellas, another one that really sticks out for me and other BG fans is the 1992 loss at Ohio St...we clearly outplayed the #22 Bucks all day and let a golden opportunity slip away. 6 turnovers did the Falcons in. I have the game on tape and every time I watch it it makes me sick to think we could have easily won that game!
I was surrounded by arrogant Buckeye fans who had been drinking since daybreak...all I heard was crap like "This is sick...we should be blowing this bush league team off the field". BG was coming off the 11-1 MAC title year and had an 11 game winning streak. BG scored first but trailed 7-6 at the half. In the 4th with OSU up 17-6, Erik White hit Mark Szchlacic (spelling?) in the corner of the end zone for a td...when you stop the game on tape you can clearly see BOTH feet in the end zone and its clearly a td. The ref is standing 2 feet away and rules Mark was out of bounds. Not in Columbus my friend!!

At that point, OSU would have led 17-12 with the conversion to follow...with 13 min left in the game Big MR MO would have been on our side. Our D held the Bucks to 230 total yds offense and harrassed Kirk Herbstreit all day...OSU had guys like Raymont Harris, Joey Galloway, Eddie George, Steve Tovar, Big Daddy Wilkinson among others. "the big uglies" was our D line's nickname and we had an awesome secondary with Carlos Brooks, Dave Bielinski, Joe Bair and Ken Burress. Our LB's included Kevin O'Brien and Artie Manghem. We just had a great D that year and wound up 10-2...the only losses at OSU and at Wisconsin the next week (39-18 Badgers).
But man that OSU game...I always wanted to get that one back...kinda like Miami in 2000 losing 27-16 in Columbus.

Oh well, next year we get another shot at the Bucks....GO BG!

Then watching the dismal second half of the season.

#3) Leftwich beating us in 2000 with 31 seconds left on the clock. Cost us our first MACC berth.
#2) Miami last year. I was in Arizona at the time. I saw we were down 24-6 at the half. Then I saw we won on the ESPN ticker later that day? I saw the ticker at midnight and they had corrected it...Miami won? I called a buddy back in Ohio to see what happened...rest is history.
#1) Loss to first year 1-A UConn in 1999. 4th Qtr. -UCONN drove the length of the field with what seemed to be 9 consecutive passes to their TE to win the game. Most frustrating thing I've ever witnessed...
