I wasn't there and there currently aren't any more details. However, balanced attack and a come from behind is nice! GO FLASHES!

04-drinky

I attended the scrimmage last night and had the following observations:

Starting Five was:

PG - DeAndre Haynes
SG - Eric Haut
F - Anthony Wilkins
F - Antonio Gates
C/F - Nate Gerwig

1. We landed a good one in DeAndre...he's very quick and looks very comfortable running the offense....has good presence for a true freshman. Cliff Brown came off the bench and looks to be very athletic...he didn't shoot too well last night but you can see the potential.

2. Big John looked very aggressive and looks more and more confident with each year...still has a problem hanging onto the ball sometimes but I guess we'll have to live with that.

3. Liked what I saw out of Matt Jakeway...he has a very good presence and looks to have a good shooting touch....matter of fact, last year I was talking with one of the coaches wives and she said that the Coaches had good things to say about Jakeway and that he COULD be a star...we'll see.

4. Gerwig looked solid as ever.

5. Gates was off a little shooting but he'll have that. But the man can flat out dribble and has some phenominal moves to the basket. He'll be fun to watch.

6. Eric Haut shot the ball well but he's not a point guard....when he was in at point guard for Haynes, he didn't look comfortable bringing the ball up and his quickness is lacking. He is definitely suited for Shooting guard but I guess he'll have to run the Point at times...who else would?

Overall, it was a nice win seeing they were down by 15 - 17 points late in the first half. It's a much different bunch of guys and it's weird not seeing Huffman, Mitchell and Shaw out there but it should be fun to watch the young guys develop.

:) Welcome aboard, BrownFlash!

Please keep the updates coming if you can. Some of us on the board don't get to many or any games and like to know first hand what is going on. The papers and TV news don't do a great job.

Go Flashes!

Hey Brownflash! 04-bow
Thanks for the rundown on the game.
We are not numerous on this board but we hold up the Kent end pretty well on the MAC board--especially in the face of so many North Miami U., Huntington U, the South Toledo Falcons, and the other T. team with the Mr. Hanky mascot.
Join the fray!
Got your back!
04-cheers

Thanks for the welcome guys! I have been looking for a message board covering Kent hoops....the ESPN board barely has any activity....this looks to be the one. I used to post on the Akron Beacon Journal board a few years back but it no longer has any activity either.

Just to let you know, I am a 1995 Kent graduate and have had season tickets for Kent hoops the last three year. I'll try to keep y'all posted since you don't make it to many games. Should be an interesting year....Go Flashes!

Since last spring, this board has taken over. The ESPN board had some traffic last year during hoops, but a number of those folks are over here. Same with the SportsOnly board. A lot of posters here are renegades from that board. The SO board is DEAD.
This is just a better site in almost every way. ESPN had quicker links to info, but the smoothness of the board operation here is so much better.

There was also a nice group on the Rivals board (circa 2000) before they were shut down. Unfortunately, not everyone from the group was able to find this one.

I am very optimistic about this year's team! I think we will contend for the east title, and I think our leadership prepares us better than anyone else for the tourneys at the end.
It was sad to see 3 KSU Hall-of-Famers graduate and at the time I was not feeling great about whatever the next year would bring.
But, I like the guys they have brought in. If we can get decent guard play--you can't truly replace MItchell and Huffman, but no one else has anyone that good either--our inside game with Gerwig and, yes, Big John E., will be tough to deal with while you are trying in vain to stop AG inside and outside.
This is a much better team than people realize around the league, and I think will be underestimated because of whom we lost. The reason people don't know that is they didn't see how good the bench was last year and how the young talent was coming along becasue they weren't truly needed much.
I agree that Houts is no PG, but he can shoot lights out and we need him for that. Really, this team is already running 7-8 deep, and some of the young players will come around in time.
I am loving DeAndre already! JUST what the doctor ordered!
04-bow

I am ready for HOOPS!

(I also hope Joshua Cribbs can have his turning point game this weekend and bust out of his passing slump, put
ting up some BIG numbers!) 04-cheers

Regardless of what the Bobkitty fans are saying to poo poo this, I think that this team's tournament experience will help by the time the MAC tourney comes around. There will be some growing pains as they adjust, but Gerwig, Edwards, and Gates were all major contributors in last year's run and most of the guys on the team were with them last year. I think that being there counts for a lot when it comes to handling the atmosphere of a tourney and while they may not win the East, they will be in the thick of it in the MAC tourney. I wouldn't want to face them as a 3-6 seed.

It should be more fun than f-ball 03-banghead

I think that the KSU fans will also help at home because the bandwagon should still be rolling and I hope that the MACC is rocking!
