You said it greenbs! Those WV jerks would probably sic their coaches on the fans, trash the home team's facilities, and run around crying "we was robbed! waaaaaahhhhhh!"

Oh. Wait a minute.

Rodriguez gets a piece of his own goalpost from fans

Those damned despots. The coaches feared for their lives when they got back to town.

The fires obviously are unconscionable, but, unfortunately, precedented (see Michigan State, Purdue, and Maryland in recent years).

Now, tearing down your home goal posts after a road win . . . I'm sorry to be insufficiently reverent, but that's funny. Pretty creative too. Kudos to the kids who thought of that one.

After Kent beat Pitt last spring in the Sweet 16 (have I mentioned that we made it to the ELite 8 last year?) I did go over to my neighbor's driveway and attempt to cut down his nets (embittered Miami fan, grumbling about our success.) Alas, I was caught... 04-drinky

As I said in a related thread...

Geeez WVU, act like you've been there before. Didn't you guys play for a National Title back in the late '80s or early '90s, back in the days of Major Harris??

It's one thing to tear down some Goalposts after a big Regular Season victory (although strange you'd tear down the goalposts at your HOME stadium after a ROAD victory), but burning down the town??

I guess they do take their Football seriously in WV.

Couch burning used to be a weekly ritual back in the 80s when WVU was in their prime. When the old stadium was still in tact, they used to rip down the goal posts at the new stadium, and march them five miles across town and put them up in the old place.

It should also be noted, that the win over Tech was WVU's first win over a ranked opponent on the road, when WVU was unranked, since 1982.
It was WVU's first win at Tech since 1992, and broke a four game losing streak to Tech, in a series that WVU used to dominate until the 90s.

WVU isn't the first team to rip down the posts at home, after a road win. In fact, I remember someone just last week, where the students couldn't get into the stadium, so they ripped the goal posts down from the practice field after their team won on the road. Can't remember the team though.

Way back when I was a student, after a victory it was a lot more fun to drink and get laid than to light fires. Come to think of it, that's what we did after losses, too! :D
