Okay, sorry for the ignorance but can someone here explain to me what the differences were between the circumstances of the Vicks and Cribbs arrests? The consequences are vitally different for these two. Vicks is suspended from the university as well as the team for pot possession, Cribbs barely escapes a distrubution charge to go along with his possession conviction, is suspended for one game they were going to lose anyway and hey, this protects him physically for the rest of the season. I actually think his "suspension" serves as an advantage to Kent this year.
I assume there must be more to the story, unless it's just that Kent can't admit a convicted felon to play ball (ND kid) and then make a worse punishment for Cribbs. I am surprised by the differences in these Vicks and Cribbs "verdicts". Explanations?

Take a look at Vick's prior record and compare to Cribbs. I believe that's the difference.

I'm sure someone here can explain better than I . I'm not going to sit and research exactly what Vick did but I think he was a repeat offender or had been arrested on more than one occassion. Who knows what else he did "off the record" that Va Tech found out?!? The university had to take a stand. Cribbs did a bad thing and made a bad decision but Kent St. went to bat for him even though it sounded like they manipulated his charge (or plea?) to get him the most favorable ruling.
Anyway, that's my very simplistic view from the outsifde. Now all you Kent St fans can tell me why I'm wrong and why Josh Cribbs is a sweetheart of a guy?!

Vick was already dealing with underage drinking and providing alcohol to a group of underage (read, under 18) girls. Then a separate moving violation couple with marijuana possession put him over the top.
I believe Cribbs is a 3.0 student with no prior troubles.

Vick had just been convicted of another crime. (Giving booze to 15 yo girls). Which had been plea-bargained down.
He was also caught w/ the pot while speeding (80 mph, in a residential? zone. details escaping me. sorry)
I thought there was talk of DUI at the time.
Those are substantial differences.

Cribbs had to provide his own defense--the university did not intervene on his behalf.
He was guilty of possession of less than 1/3 of an oz. of pot and will serve 5 years probation plus the community service.
He was suspended from all football activity until the verdict was delivered. He was suspended for one game by the coach.
Those are the facts.
Please feel free to add your own level of outraged indignation and unsupported hypotheses as suits you.
That is, after all, why we are here.
The pot jokes need a lot of improvement though. The best ones have actually come from Kent fans and that's just not right.

Another difference that's relevant under the Pruett/Bowden sentencing guidelines: Cribbs is a starter.

1/3 of an ounce? that's not a whole lot. My cousin got busted with 13 pounds of the stuff crammed in Tide boxes. He only did 18 months. Cribbs did not deserve jail time.

My question on Vick...Does he truly stay with tech (Which he should never of did...he should of made his own niche somewhere else...the scrutiny was going to bad without his poor decisions) Does he transfer to a 1-AA school just to be able to play right away...or does he sit out the year and join another 1-A program...If I was him I would just say no and go to KEnt to help push them over the edge to be a great program

Sure, I'll tell you, Zippy. First of all, Kent State did not "go to bat" for Cribbs. He had to acquire and pay for his own legal counsel. He was suspended from football activities, but did not lose his scholarship until his "personal legal matters were resolved."
As stated earlier, Josh is on track to gaduate with over a 3.0 GPA in Computer Sciences. He actually had his best academic term as a student during last fall's semester, football season. Josh volunteered for community events, showed up for class, and before this, Kennedy said his office " had never even had a complaint" about Cribbs. Thiese facts are different from Vick's track record at Virginia Tech.
So, the court gave J.C. a second chance and so did Kent State. I understand why the Zips regret this.
