I will.
The latest NCAA stats, including games from 11/30/02, reveal:
Total defense:
MU 30th; 736 plays; 3643 yrds; 4.95 yrds/play; 33 TDs; 331.18 yrds/game
UT 44th; 793 plays; 4151 yrds; 5.23 yrds/play; 35 TDs; 345.92 yrds/game
Do you really think that 14 yards per game makes a difference? Both teams are giving up exactly 23.2 points per game so the case could be made that both defenses are equal.
Of course I like some of the important stats, don't matter if they are offense, defense, or special teams:
Scoring Defense
TOLEDO 23.2
Marshall 23.2
Turnover Margin
TOLEDO +.67
Marshall -.73
Some interesting numbers:
Team Average Return Yards per Punt
TOLEDO 15.25 (9th out of 117 I-A Teams)
Marshall 5.05 (115th out of 117 I-A Teams)
UT Rushing Offense vs Marshall Rushing Defense:
TOLEDO 223.42 (12th in the Nation)
Marshall 179.1 (91st in the Nation)
Scoring Offense:
TOLEDO 35.42 (13th in the Nation)
Marshall 33.64 (16th in the Nation)
Offensive Touchdowns:
TOLEDO 57
Marshall 47
Just some interesting figures. Of course none of that means a thing when the game is played!
