Well, all I have to say is the Flashes getting an early Chrismas present from SMSU made the half hour drive back to Uniontown much more pleasant Saturday evening.

For what it's worth, here's my 2 cents worth:

1. If Antonio Gates has to take 26 shots EVERY game, we're gonna be in trouble...yeah, he is the goto man but he forced up some shots when there was an open man...but I'll give him credit, he did what he had to do to pull out a win.

2. Anthony Wilkins is pretty darn good 3-point shooter, so the more open looks we can get him from 3-point land, the better, as far as i'm concerned.

3. DeAndre made some mistakes (turnovers) that could have cost us the game but i'd rather he try to make things happen and be aggressive (which he was) than not....with 40 or so seconds to go in OT, we had just gotten a rebound and I believe we were up by 4.....but instead of trying to slow it down and run some time off the clock, he pushed it up the floor and tried to hit Gerwig down low and turned it over...blame that on inexperience but DeAndre is going to he one hell of a point guard.

4. Got to give Haut big credit for hitting the tying basket in the lane.

5. John Edwards - HOLD ON TO THE DAMN BALL!!!!!!!

Overall, this was a good win because it showed that although young, this team found a way to win and that goes a long way.

Anyone else that was there have any thoughts??

I was a bit diappointed by the attendance numbers. A late Sat. afternoon game with a pretty good OOC opponent at home and 3,100 was all they could muster. The athletic dept sucks. No marketing at all. It is a shame that there was less than 5K in the barn. No wonder coaches like Heath and Waters left. 03-banghead

Remember though, the students were on Thanksgiving break.....and it was pretty nasty out....but I agree, the attendance was a little disappointing

Good point! Forgot about the holiday break. That said 3K+ was proabably not too bad. If they could get 1-1.5K in students, that joint would be rockin'!

I was pleased with the effort and what I saw. This is a team that will only get better. They need to bond and get the chemistry. Our talent is good and it is deep. I believe that the coach and the players learned from that game. I do know that Coach did a hell of a job during crunch time. To win, it took help from SWMS, but he did what was required to even give us the chance to win. By season's end, I predict that you will be pleased. It is quite possible that SWMS is better than what the MAC has to offer this year. They sure surprised me.

I think this team has some growing pains to go through. After they lost the lead Saturday, they could have panicked or gotten discouraged, but they showed some guts. We have some WINNERS on this team.
The off-guards will be a strength as the season goes on, too.
I love DeANdre! Sure he needs some seasoning, but he is smart, savvy, an he will earn. He played well, on the whole.
I agree about Antonio, too. He can't try to carry the team all the time. We have some shooters.
John, I'm afraid, will be John. He will have some great moments, though no one can expect him to be a major force out there. He will attract attention though, and that will give the other big guys some breathing room.

We are the last undefeated team left in the MAC--sad to say since everyone has only played 3-4 games tops.
