By Stewart Mandel, CNNSI.com

While the exact lineup won't be determined until after Saturday's games, BCS officials determined during their weekly conference call Tuesday that Iowa will be one of its participants.

"We have been assured that Iowa will be in the BCS system," said Big Ten Associate Commissioner Sue Lister. "We don't know which game, but that's a conference statement."

The announcement likely signals that the Orange Bowl has decided it will take the Hawkeyes as its at-large selection if Miami beats Virginia Tech on Saturday and is lost to the Fiesta Bowl, rather than Notre Dame, Kansas State or Texas.

Those teams could still be selected if UCLA beats Washington State on Saturday, sending USC to the Rose Bowl and freeing up the BCS' other at-large berth. In that event, or if Miami loses, the Rose Bowl will get to select Iowa.

Orange Bowl officials could not be reached for comment.

The decision about Iowa's status triggered a chain of events in which five other Big Ten teams were invited to bowls. They were: Penn State (Capital One), Michigan (Outback), Wisconsin (Alamo), Purdue (Sun) and Minnesota (Music City).

It also means the Big Ten's seventh bowl partner, the Motor City, will not have an eligible conference team to choose. Possible replacements include Texas A&M and Wake Forest.

Yep, all that talk on here about Iowa not getting a BCS bid was just that.........talk.
I knew the BIG10 would not let Iowa get left out of the BCS picture.
I bet they had a long serious talk with BCS big wigs and stated "Listen up fellows, if you can take two PAC10 teams and one of them being a one loss unpopular Oregon St, you can damn sure take 2 BIG10 teams this year and one of them being an unpopular one loss Iowa."

BIG10 did the same thing PAC10 did before. They just put their foot down and made sure that Iowa got in no matter what. This time it just wasn't so publicized.
And like Oregon St did belong in the BCS then, I agree that Iowa belongs in the BCS picture this year.
Notre Dame is the one that doesn't belong, again.
I hope Texas A&M goes to MCB but.............
........I think MCB will end up with Wake Forest. .........yuck

The most pathetic crying of all is from 10-2 Kansas State. What a joke! Today, they promised to sell 25,000 Orange Bowl tickets.

I'm sure Iowa will appreciate that :)

Now we all know KSU has been wronged time and time again by the BCS. I mean, it's not their fault they lost key games each of the last few years. What the hell does the BCS want. . . a successful team? The nerve of that system.

So, if ND drops to the Gator Bowl now, does that mean that the MAC can grab a Big East team like Boston College?

If not them then we're "stuck" with Texas A&M (if they'd accept, which is unlikely I'd say) or Wake Forest (yuck....that'll sell about 10 tickets).
Good thing we have the Rockettes in the game I guess.....at least they'll take 20K (but I can't see even the UT faithful getting fired up for Wake Forest.....may as well take USF in that case).

Hey, if we took USF right now and then UC lost, who would C-USA get to play in Hawaii..........hmmmmmmmm

Sure, tell that to Fla St 2002, Nebraska 2001, Notre Dame 2000...

I don't know, OH, but I keep seeing Iowa State "penciled" in to the Boise H-Bowl.

Looks like everyone will have to wait to see if WSU beats UCLA or not........if they do I suspect we'll get V-Tech, BC, or Texas A&M. If UCLA wins, then I guess it's A&M (if they accept) or even USF or Wake.

Kansas State beat USC and only lost to #8 Texas and at now#12 Colorado. Of course, the rest of their preseason schedule stunk, but they also hammered bowl teams Nebraska, Iowa State & Oklahoma State.

There's no way they should go over Iowa, but I'd take 'em over Notre Dame if USC wins the Pac 10.
