BG's situation is different than BSU's. So I consider Krebs working his tail off to entice Mt. Union's Larry Kehres to consider. Kehres, like Tressel, knows how to coach a winning team, and make it through a long rigorous season. Kehres is clearly content in Alliance, but if he wins it all this year (again!) one has to wonder if he wouldn't consider new a challenge.

Bob Toledo would be a decent pick for BG. He's vastly underrated, but doesn't have mid-west ties.

Deleware's KC Keeler would be worth considering, but he's a UD alumnus and probably better suited for the E. Coast.

Hey, RC Slocum is out of a job! Seriously, I think Kehres would be an awesome fit but I don't think he wants to leave Mt Union.
What about Tim Beckman? BG's D coordinator has been with BG for over 5 years and the players love him...and he puts a solid d on the field every yr. But would Beckman head to Utah with Meyer?

Uran....that is classis! 04-bow
I neede that cuz I am so pissed off right now.

I wonder if Rob Spence, UT's O coordinator would be a canidate. He has done an awesome job at UT. Don' know where his interests are. It sure would heat up the old UT-BG rivalry. Hey, isn't Blackney at Minnesota? Maybe he would come back. Sorry, that was mean. :D

Blackney is at UMd, and obviously doing well.

He's a good coach.

This was in a Salt Lake newspaper,

"Though he has not announced his exact plans, Meyer is believed to be bringing three assistant coaches with him to Utah: assistant head coach Gregg Brandon, quarterbacks coach Dan Mullen and special teams coordinator and cornerbacks coach Tommy Thigpen. That would allow room for Meyer to retain Utah defensive coordinator Kyle Whittingham, if he wants."

So I guess Brandon definitely won't be the next coach. I say we make Tim Beckman the next coach since the players love him so much. he has been a great assistant at BG and it is time to see how he does as a head coach.

Hoeppner would have gone with Walker to Northwestern had he not been given the Miami head job.

I wouldn't exclude any Meyer assistants from the list just yet.

C'mon Doc - could they bear to hire a coach named Toledo at bugs? If you can't get Bob Toledo maybe you can get Marshall Reynolds, sounds like he's not too happy in Huntington these days.

Toledo is just a BG suburb.

I am very surprised to not see Billy Gonzales' name on this list. He played at Colorado St and as a wr's coach, I thought he would be the first to go.

I want Coach Studrawa to remain...he played on the O line from 82 thru 85 at BG and is all orange and brown...Coach ward also.

I doubt Kehres has any interest in leaving. Others have taken a run at him.

Why would he want to leave a place where he can recruit over 100 freshmen each year? I think the biggest challenge he would have going from Div III to a scholarship level school would be having to get it right with his recruits 75% to 80% of the time. When you have over 100 kids coming in each year, you only have to be right on 20% or so of them. If you miss on 80% of your scholarships at I-A or I-AA, you are toast.

I am sure he knows football and knows talent, but it would be different.

New challenge. Isn't it getting old beating the snot out of Rowan every year? (Yeah I know they lost. Trinity might make it a good game.)

The Blade suggests Brandon, Beckman and Studrawa are all interested in the head job.

In Brandon's case, I imagine he'll join Meyer in Utah if he doesn't get it. Beckman *might* stay with us either way (assuming a new coach would have hiim, and he'd be stupid not to). I think Studrawa would definitely stay in Bowling Green if he can (and it would be just as stupid for a new coach not to take him up on that).

What a tough position for these coaches to be in. What a tough business.

Wow.

footballscoop.com reporting Tim Kish (DC at Indiana) and apparently YSU head coach John Heacock as "early name"

Div III is no scholarship, so why can't a Div I coach have 100 freshmen/year...just most w/ no scholarships? It's cheaper to go to a state school than a private one (like Mt. Union). I admit, it's one thing I never understood well, when a kid thinks he can play w/ the best and then chooses an expensive, private Div III school.

Anyway, I believe there are NCAA restrictions on the total size of a football team, regardless of scholarships, but I'm not certain. I remember several years ago hearing announcers say that Don James had 150 players at practices at UWash. (And UNL had a boatload of players).
