You really should read this.
This is such a sad, unbelievable story when you get into the details.
It is also completely hysterical.
I especially love the statement to the police.
Why can't stuff like this happen in the MAC?
Oh....that's right, it does. Never mind. :D

Can anyone believe some of the stuff Bobby Knight used to get away with? Leave a Tampon in you locker for feminine rebounding? Texas Tech through any sense of credibility out the window by hiring Knight.

In all fairness to Knight, he shoots only his friends, not his employees.

I have, for quite some time, advocated a sliding scale of scholarships depending on your graduation rate. It could even be specific to sport. Graduate 75% or more in that sport, you get all your scholarships. Graduate less, and you get fewer scholarships. Of course, I would change the method of accounting so that players leaving early to enter the NBA or the NFL wouldn't count against a school's rate but that's just a detail rather than the concept. Unfortunately, the NCAA is a spineless organization and it won't do anything.

That would mean the end of CUSA Basketball as we know it!

It also penalizes programs that get raided by the NFL or NBA.

I would agree with this if there was a rule in the NBA draft similar to the NFL draft. A player must be out of high school for three years before qualifying for the draft. I would even like to explore moving that rule to four years.

The NFL rule is strictly for safety. They don't want grown men hitting teenagers. Basketball, while physical, isn't close to football in that regard. Look at Mo Clarett for example, he looks physically developed, but he got nicked up quite a bit this year and those were just college players. NFL players probably would have ended his career pretty quickly. It wouldn't make sense for the NBA. Especially when you have guys like Tracy McGrady, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett and now Amare Stoudamire dominating in the league. Then you have the European NBA guys who've been pros since they were 16 and you can tell. If we had a draft for a war an 18 year old would have to go and risk his life, but he can't get drafted by the NBA? Go and get paid is what I say, everyone else is.
What I would like to see the NBA do is develop the NBDL a little more and make it similar to Minor League Baseball. The team can draft a high school player, place them on their NBDL affiliate and retain their rights. And if a player decides to go to college he has to stay at least 3 years (like college baseball). The MLB and the NCAA are doing it the right way in baseball. I don't know much about hockey but I think it's similar. Another thing I like about college baseball is that players can transfer one time w/out having to sit out a year.

Personally, I'd like to see the Arena League and/or the World League become more of a minor league for the NFL. It should be like baseball -- if you want to go to college, go. If you want to play in the NFL, play in the minor leagues. That would eliminate a lot of the problems we have now in NCAA football -- it should not be the minor league for the NFL.
