College football/Kent State
Flashes land new quarterback
Hoban standout Sitko orally commits to KSU

By Brian Windhorst

Beacon Journal staff writer

Tom Sitko wants to build things, and next on his list is a college career at Kent State.

Last week, the Hoban star quarterback orally committed to play for Dean Pees and the Golden Flashes next fall. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Sitko chose Kent State over Akron and Youngstown State.

Sitko, a versatile player who is effective running and passing the ball, thought he was a match with the Golden Flashes' offensive system, which is designed for mobile quarterbacks such as Joshua Cribbs. Another deciding factor was the school's architecture program, which Sitko plans to study.

``I was very comfortable with the coaching staff,'' Sitko said. ``They started recruiting me during the season and stayed in contact ever since.''

Sitko was named first-team All-Ohio in Division III as a punter, averaging 44.5 yards. But he made his mark as a three-year starter at quarterback, where he compiled a 31-7 record and led the Knights to the state semifinals last fall.

He passed for 1,228 yards and 13 touchdowns and also ran for 667 yards and eight touchdowns.

Sitko is the second Hoban player to land a Division I-A scholarship in the last week. Knights defensive lineman Ryan Thompson, who is 6-foot-5, 285-pounds, orally committed to Boston College last week.

Hey, at least they kept him away from Akron and YSU! :D

I want the player that Boston College got, not the player that YSU almost got. The fact of the matter is that the only way we will beat a Marshall or Miami, is to to after and get those types.
