Well, so far so good with Coach Brandon. The day Meyer announced he was leaving, Brandon was sitting in his office kind of in shock and one by one the players started coming into his offense to see what he was gonna do. He told them he would be applying for the main job and if he didn't get it, would be going to Utah as well. These players marched over to AD Paul Krebs' office and told him they wanted Brandon as the head coach...a few days later, Brandon became the 16th coach in BG history.
The players respect the man so much and will play their asses off for this staff. I'll say this...the high powered O BG runs now is Brandon's system and not Meyer's...and our Assistant Head Coach/Defense, Tim Beckman, came back and will lead a defense with 8 starters back...including one of the most veteran secondaries in the nation. Coach Beckman's defenses have always been at the top or near it in the MAC.

The O line has me concerned a bit since we must replace 3 starters from 2002...and we only had 7 healthy linemen for our spring game a couple weeks ago. If all rehab properly, we'll have 17 O linemen in preseason camp.

Other than that, we have 17 starters back and look to have a big year...would love to host the Zips for the MAC title~ 03-wink

I know Owens is looking for big things with Akron having every offensive starter back this yr...Charlie Frye is one of the MAC's best qb's. If the Zips D can be solid, I have Akron as my darkhorse to win the East. With so many folks talking Miami, UCF and Marshall, I think Akron could very well do the job. 04-cheers

Only 126 days til kickoff!!

I'm glad we don't have to play BG very often though 03-wink

Those games vs. each other used to be classics. You'd beat us, then the next year we'd beat you, then you'd beat us, etc.

I think BG will be atop the West this year.

Your OL might be a problem. I didn't think Akron would be in TOO much trouble, but when we lost our whole OL in one year....we were struggling big time last year. I think BG will be okay. You still have leaders at the OL spot.

That would be awesome if we played for the MAC title! What a game that would be! 04-cheers
