Conference play commences this week and as such, it is a good time to review what has transpired in pre-conference play. Unlike last season, the 2005 version of the Sun Belt has a unanimous favorite in the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns. The Cajuns open up the Sun Belt slate at home this weekend against the archrival South Alabama Jaguars, the squad predicted to finish second in conference. Here is a recap of the season thus far.
Note: Boyd Nation's Ratings (pRPI and ISR) are from 3/22. Records are as of 3/24.

The preseason favorites have done nothing to detract from the consensus that the conference title is the Cajuns' to win. The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns raced to a school record season opening fourteen victories en route to the Louisiana-Lafayette Invitational, Mardi Gras Ball Tournament, Hawaii Rainbow Classic, and Metrodome Classic championships. Cajun victories include a 19-3 shellacking of First Team Preseason All-American Mike Pelfrey of Wichita State, two wins over St. John's, and wins over Minnesota, Northwestern State, Texas State, Lamar, and South Florida. The Cajuns have cooled somewhat of lately, but have yet to have a losing week this season.
