All Non-"Cartel" Member Schools need to form some sort of alliance and go after the BCS and it's members. This is a blatant antitrust issue and it will force the "Cartel" Members hand. Unfortunately one of the outcomes could very well end up being a split altogether by the current BCS Schools from the rest of Division I-A.

Unfortunately this alliance I speak of more than likely will never be. Too many schools out there looking out only for themselves... See Louisville as example #1.

I agree, and have advocated this for years.

In fact that's why I like the regional conferences, makes it simpler to host a playoff.

But, if this action did result in a split, the BCS group would still be open to anti-trust litigation if they did decide to go w/ a playoff. "Hey, we like the idea now that you guys are gone," won't fly. At least it shouldn't. No one can predict the outcome of a lawsuit, but I but it would be heard.

``Let's not ask about them giving money to us,'' said Bill Greiner, the president of Buffalo. ``They want to drive people out of competition at the Division I-A level unless we come up to some standard they decide to set in terms of expenditures and attendance. That is plain flat-out wrong.''

Well stated. 04-bow

Let's hope that all the MAC school presidents were part of those 44 presidents that created this coalition. We don't need the MAC to sit back and do nothing.

Quote: "I'm skeptical a national champion could be determined in a playoff without infringing on a student athlete's welfare," said Penn State president Graham Spanier, a member of the committee.

I wonder if he can really say that with a straight face?

Somehow they manage to establish national champions at every other level of college footbal ON THE FIELD, instead of by poll or by an artificial exclusionary BCS system.

The real reason the BCS doesn't want the 5 other 1-A conf around...

Tulane president Scott Cowen convened a teleconference of 44 presidents from non-BCS schools and created a Presidential Coalition for Athletic Reform. The goals of the coalition are to improve access for all teams to postseason football, reduce the financial requirements for remaining in Division I-A and raise academic requirements in college athletics.

Raising academic requirements in college athletics. The MAC has always had strong requirements to play...the big boys slide on this rule quite often.
