Hey AO,

I know you have an in with the football program.
What is the deal with all the missing players from last year?

Berry, Gonzales, Thomas, Beard, M. Harris, Hector, Rease, Davis, Shippy, just to name a few. There are many more.

Some of these guys were highly touted, but are nowhere to be found.
It does no good to recruit good players, if they never play, or only play 1 year.

Do you know anything on this?

Thanks,

This is what I know.

Berry, Gonzales - They talked to these two guys at the spring game and both of them acted like there grades were in order to play this year. They were prop48 and had to sit this past spring out. I don'r know for sure if the will be playing this year but I hope so.

Beard - Sat out of spring ball due to grades. He should be able to play this year.

Thomas, M. Harris, Hector, Rease - All are off the team. Thomas never cam and he now play foe a 1-AA team. The others just quit I guess.

Davis - I have not heard a thing. I am guessing he was a prop48 and might be able to play this year if he is still at Akron.

Shippy - He is out this year due to grades. He is a good kid who normal gets good grades. I bet the distance form home does not help him. I bet he stays and comes back next year.

I hope this helps you.

Thanks for the update.

It seems like every year more than a handful of players just vanish from the team, and you never know why.
When they are backups, you sometimes don't notice. But when they are starters, or highly thought of recruits, it's frustrasting.
I remember Battle a couple years ago was a stud true freshman starting MLB. Then he was gone without a word.
This happens everywhere I know, but it seems to happen to Akron more than most.

Thanks again.

Yes, very common now a days. Seems like kids forget about the most important aspect of college - grades. That or obeying team rules.

What do you Zip fans think about the Thursday game? I kind of like it because it's not the same weekend as the OSU/Michigan game. Hopefully there will be a very nice showing for that game. I know I can't wait to see how the defense turns out.
