This is huge!

UCF
The Knights suffered a major blow to its 2003 starting corps, as academic issues will sideline three senior leaders. Fullback Andreal Curry, middle linebacker Chad Mascoe, and guard Alex Mendez, all projected starters, will not be eligible to play this season. Earlier this summer, academic shortcomings claimed starting DE Rashad Jeanty, who subsequently fled to the CFL.

USF
Sophomore reserve WR Marcus Edwards, who is the son of New York Jets head coach Herman Edwards, has decided to quit the team and transfer to San Diego State. After redshirting in 2001, Edwards received very little playing time last season due to the Bulls

Nope. Fourth place for the Sir Talkalots either way.

In my opinion (not that I'm anybody), I don't think that Jeanty or Mascoe will be missed too much. We are deep at LB and from some of the comments from coaches, I don't think Jeanty was the best DE on the team. I think that Mendez may be missed, but I get the feeling that the Coaches saw this coming - since they went went the JUCO route to find a replacement RG. Andreal Curry is the one that is most surprising although we do have a very capable (albeit somewhat smaller at 5'-11" 235 lbs) FB in Dee Brown.

These losses mostly will affect our depth. There are as good if not better replacements for each, but they need to stay healthy.

You guys are lucky, if you had won anything in the MAC, you could count on the on the long knives coming out from the sorelosermans on this board. As it stands, since you have done nothing in the short time you have been here, you get a repreive from goofball, RF and Dodo. :D Please stop recuriting thugs that can play football. This really is an alarming number of DQ's.

We could always keep the "thugs" on the team and follow in your footsteps. :la:

Stop co-opting the word thug. A thug isn't someone who can't cut it in college. God knows this country would have a serious problem if that was the case. A thug is someone you would find on the Marshall team: A CRIMINAL.

Personally, I could care less if MACsters wanted to jump on us for losing 4 players to academics. I'm not ashamed of the fact that we don't hand out grades. These guys aren't enrolled in the UCF College of Engineering and Computer Science, they have pretty manageable majors. Do the work. They have access to good tutors and they live in some kick ****** dorms w/ maid service, cable, ethernet, etc. It's on them.

Oh and I doubt Dodo would be one to join in like you suggest because he's also a GT fan and they lost 10.

We'll continue recruiting great football players who will help us win and maintain our criminal free track record. Coach K has adjusted the recruiting policy with regards to academic profile though. As the academic profile of the general student body rises, so will that of our student athletes. In this past recruiting class we had quite a few players with 1200+ SATs and high 20's ACTs.

Academic casualties are always going to happen. I don't criticize schools because kids don't make the grades. I criticize schools who give their football players grades to keep them eligible.

Also, the NCAA graduation counts are flawed because they don't count kids who finish their degree later and they count kids who transfer as not graduation.

And, FWIW, as I've said before, I've been watching UCF football for quite some time, and I have a good bit of respect for their program. I think some of the stuff Khrushchev and Origami said the last couple years was ill-advised and stupid, but I think UCF has done a nice job doing things right, overall.
