It means we told Marshall to go take a hike while we signed up games with Ohio State.
Ohio State has an opening for 2006, and so does Ohio.
Well, If your gonna lose you might as well lose and get paid.

You mean lapping again.
Bowling Green has already played Ohio State three times.
That is true, but I was only going by the more recent rotation that seems to be developing with Ohio State and all the Ohio schools minus Toledo.
The first game was in 1992. The second was in 1997 -- which is when the rotation started.
Well Toledo first game with OSU was 1998, so I wasn't counting the '92 game.

More proof that Toledo is really part of Michigan.

Having an annual series with OSU would help any MAC school tremendously in recruiting. And eventually we could starting winning a few of those Ohio-OSU games.

No, but with an annual series it would elevate recuiting to the point where we could dominate the MAC.
We're never going to be toe to toe with OSU in football, but if we played them 10 years in a row we could get to the point were we would win 2 games per 10 years.

So they can have another good rival.....
Whats the point of rotating between all the Ohio schools when you can have a rivalry with one?
My guess is they'd set a series up with Cinncinati before anyone else but one can dream right?

the Ohio State vs. other Ohio schools has been going on for a decade and te Buckeyes are yet to lose one. Of course I realize that eventually we will drop one, but I dont think it well ever get to the point where we lose 20% of the games.

Oh I think its possible...
If Toledo, Miami, BG with their current programs played against OSU every single year they'd come out with a win once in a while. And usually they'd be competitive.
OSU is one of those few college football heavy weights that never loses to non-BCS schools. The only other ones I can name with this aura are Michigan, maybe Florida, USC, Texas......very, very few.
Thats why I can't believe how confident Marshall fans are about winning the OSU game. Ohio State is not on the level of Kansas State. Kansas St does not have top 10 recruiting classes, more like mid level BCS talent.

Cinncy almost beat you....soon to be a BCS school.
BG was a close scare. And that Miami-OSU game a couple of years ago was competitive.
Most of the Ohio 1-A schools are going to be complete lay-ups for OSU on any given year, but if you played a 1 game against Cinncy, Miami, or Toledo every year then I could see more upsets.

"Thats why I can't believe how confident Marshall fans are about winning the OSU game."
I think most Marshall fans seem to think that there is a chance that Marshall matches up well with Ohio St. The key to that game, is if Marshall's "questionable" O-Line can keep OSU's dominant defense out of the backfield long enough to give Stan Hill time. I don't think most Marshall fans are overly confident, but just seem to think there may be a chance. If we start scoring on them, then I think the game could suprise some people.
Marshall has 9 defensive starters back this year...and defense has historically been our weakness. This is possibly the best D-Unit we've had since the '99 undefeated team.
If Marshall plays like they did at Tennesse & Kansas St., ...and ............Stan Hill does not get injured, then I think this is a possibility, especially the way OSU plays in their 2nd or 3rd game every year - it always seems a little shaky. Bowling Green did an excellent job last year in Columbus.

Good post Kit-Kat and I agree with you that eventually Ohio State will lose to an in-state opponent. I just think 20% or 2 out of 10 is not likely especially with the games in Columbus. Remember that Ohio State is a consenus top 5 program and that every player on a MAC roster(and almost every school's roster)was passed on by Ohio State. And while recruiting is not an exact science, You can theoretically say that Ohio State has more talent on its bench than many teams have on their entire roster.

Buckle on your helmet, kid. I smell incoming, and you have just earned every bit of it.
BTW, to take just one example, does the name Roethlisberger ring a bell?

That is the way Ohio State plays though. We don't put up many points and never blow anyone out. But at the same time we play very conservative and rarely turn the ball over, which actually makes it less likely that team with less talent will upset us. With turnovers and special teams being equal it will always come down to the men in the trenches aka O-lines and D-lines in football. And I would say Ohio State matches up very well against every MAC school in that department. We simply dominate the line of scrimmage and wear opponents down with our physical play and dominating the time of possesion. Everyone plays us close but very few can beat us.

he was passed on as a QB, Ohio State only offered him as a Tight End. It is understandable considering he had only played 1 season in High school as a QB. And like I said, recruiting is not an exact science and there will always be gems that fall throught the cracks. But for every Roethlisberger there is i'm sure there are just as many that MAC schools take chances on and never pan out. Ohio State will always will have more depth than MAC schools and will always have more overrall talent. It is only a matter of time until an Ohio school upsets us but it will never get to a point where it happens once every 5 years.

My understanding was that Ben was recruited by the Cow College as a quarterback but that zillions of message board posters speculated that he'd be moved to TE.
Clearly, OSU's odds improve since they refuse to play OOC road games. But I nonetheless thank you for reminding me why I loathe most Buckeye fans and pull for Michigan in the game every fall.
Best personal regards,
DG
