and no one showed? I'm guessing that's what happened because media day was Sunday and neither the PD or BJ had any articles on Mon or Tues. No wonder this program can't draw flies. They can't even get the print media to do an article with interviews from the team's media day. If Akron or Kent could get the media to treat them like D-1 schools then things might turn a little. THIS IS JUST SO FRUSTRATING!

It's a chicken and egg problem. If we win, they will cover us, and people will come out. But we don't warrent the coverage when we are this bad. The bigger question is, what exactly are the marketing people doing to promote the season? Nothing. They never do anything. Akron outclasses in that department. At least they are putting up billboards around the Akron/Canton area promoting the game. Per usual, the Einsteins at Kent have made no effort to promote the team.
Akron has had a local cable TV deal over the last couple of years to put the games on TV. What has Kent done??? Why do they insist on keeping the same people running the behind the scenes work, when they don't work??? This ineptness has gone on since I was in college several years ago. The games on the radio sound like they are being broadcst through a cell phone. It just sounds small time and it makes me mad.

If you are OSU they will come anyway. If you are a KSU, Personal relationships between the SID and the Local writers becomes gold. Every now and then you actually need a favor in coverage. During the 70's, Kent got front sports page coverage every week. Of course we had a SID who came with major college experience. In other words, he was not a fresh kid of graduate assistant proportions. I would venture a bet that the current SID, if we have one, has not bent an elbow with any of the local or regional writers. This is not a major program.

Hey, in all sincerity, I feel for you guys.......really. You deserve better for the program. On the other hand, and frankly speaking, I don't know how we could possibly do any better with what we have.

You've got one of the marquis (sp?) players in all D1 ball pulling the trigger for you.............a great back returning after an injury plagued season, the HC runs the Defense and a new OC with a "wide open" style to unveil. Your center is NFL bound also, hailing from one of the top local programs.

It's just wrong the way KSU's fb program is marketed.

And I agree, UAM (UA Marketing aka Mike Waddell) and his guys are pulling the whole load for the KSU/UA game on the 28th, and doing a great job.

You just deserve better................honest! That's all...........

As a Kent fan, I hate to say this. But, frankly, until Flashes football proves it can consistently be competitive, it is getting the media interest it deserves. Zero. And I hope this year's team takes it personally.

Coming off of an 3-9 season, backed up by a five year record of 12-34, you can't expect the media or anyone else to get too excited about the season's prospects. Billboards now- please. If we want to get fans excited about this team, get them into Dix Stadium - the Flashes have to WIN SOME FRIGGIN' GAMES consistently. Not just this year, but the next few years. Put AT LEAST a .500 season on the books then talk to me about billboards.

Personally, I like the "no more excuses" attitude of this year's team. As bad as some think they may be, maybe the SID department has the fans' pulse (those that are left) on this one. Speaking as only one alum, I am tired of losing. I am tired of insights into growing pains. I am tired of hearing things will get better. I am tired of reading articles about great attitudes, strong weight room work ethic and high impact recruits. I am tired of being informed about tough schedules and how hard everyone is working. It all sounds like more blah, blah, blah to me and the media likely agrees.

It has been long enough. It's time to win more than we lose. It is time to put up or shut up about KSU football. Period.

Sorry for the rant. I suspect I am singing to the choir on this board. But, just had to get this off my chest. Thanks.

I'll give you an "amen," brother!
Time for talking is over. This is a pivotal year. Another 2-3 win year and I support going to div 2. We'll have taken our best shot at D-1 and that's that. It won't get any better next year.
Hell, let's join the A-10! 03-lol

I could not agree more. I think the attendance clause for D-IA is stupid; that performance at D- IA is a much btter measure. Having said that, clearly the two are related. Plus, 12 wins over 5 seasons should be no one's standard of performance at a top caliber level.

It's time for the Flashes to get better or get out. In some ways, I'm glad the NCAA will force our hand on this or we could wallow forever.
