The fact was no one said anything about the MAC championship. He just said they had to eat their words for five years. Since we did win the east again and got a bowl win again, I don't think their is any doubt that we accomplished enough that year for the original naysayers to still be chomping at the bit. Well Toledo beat Marshall in both 2000 and 2001 so in the case of Toledo it was only 3 years!

I think some clarifying is necessary here. Toledo humiliated Marshall in 2000. To use the word "beat" would not do that game justice.
However, in fairness, I also think Marshall getting to bowls each of those seasons and making it to the MACC is pretty exceptional.
