KSU FOOTBALL Receivers seeking encore
Tom Hardesty
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By David Carducci
Record-Courier staff writer
How does a receiving corps improve on a season in which it recorded the second-most yards in Kent State’s 83-year football history?
For the 2004 Golden Flashes, the answer is simple.
Catch enough passes to improve 622 yards on the 2003 campaign and become the most prolific group of receivers ever to play at Kent State.
That goal could be very reachable. Other than Daryl Moore, who accounted for 26 catches and 362 yards of the Flashes’ 192-catch and 2,637-yard totals, the entire cast from last year is back, and they’ve all spent the off season working together to get better.
“I’m really excited about the receiving corps we have coming back,

Does not sound exactly like a dry cupboard, does it? I have a feeling that the limited talent that we are proclaimed to have is not as bad as assumed. It was well disguised by incompetent coaching and a lack of motivation. Just a hunch on my part. Look for this team to suprise.

Oh, man, Flashes, don't break my heart again. This could be a very memorable year.

Flashes are in a nice situation, GF. No one (other than us) expects much. That's fine. We'll either meet their expectations or shock a few MAC fans. Personally think it's going to be the latter.
Even though he hasn't coached a game yet...I think we're gonna like Martin. I've been waiting years to hear a KSU coach publically get mad about being picked fifth (or worse) and have a sense of urgency about winning.

I, like most of us here, have seen and suffered through some lean years. This will not be one of them. Let's hope they get out of Iowa relatively unscathed and bring on Liberty. I can't wait for this to start!
Underestimate the Flashes, fine! I like rooting for the underdog and let's face it, KSU historically is the home of the underdog. Many of us come from bluecollar backgrounds in Y-town, Akron, or Cleveland and worked our arses off to make something of ourselves. We expect the same of our teams. No silver spoon MU folks here! We are underdogs by nature. We are Kent State!
