Pepsi rules WV, they have 10 of the top 15 Carbonated soft drinks sold in the state according to AC Neilsen. Pepsi sponsors the Herd and the Mountainqueers use coke.

Pepsi even has a corporate box in James Edwards Stadium.

How about how the old timers say that.......'sodey-pop'

Or calling a bag a poke, that's always a funny one to hear sometimes as well.

In Huntington, it's an RC with a Moon Pie. (I did go to Mohr Bros and pickup cases of pop-Whatever happened to Buckeye Beer or POC?).
Pride of Cleveland was possibly the worst beer ever brewed especially warm.No wonder NE Ohio was known for it's rich natural gas reserves.

The Maumee Bay Brewing Company bought the formula for Buckeye Beer and started producing it again. That's some nasty s#!t. :D

If you make it back to Toledo, it's located at 27 Broadway in the old Oliver House. Personally, I'd try the IPA (so hoppy your tongue begs for mercy before begging for more beer), hefewiezen, or imperial stout.

IPA sounds great, but a Stout or a good Bock are also excellent.
Anybody doing a Rocket beer or Ale?How about Falcon Malt Liquor with the slogan:"Give someone "The Bird". (Sorry about that one I haven't had my cofffee yet.)

Not a suprise to me. The West Virginia I know is an extention of the Eastern Ohio/Western Pennsylvannia region. I thought cluturally it was coal minning country. Much of Kentucky is the same way. Lower Midwest.

The big surprise to me and most of the MAC board is how insistant Marshall fans were upon calling themselves a Southern School.

The map proves what I had believed with Buffalo all along; culturally it fits into the Midwest.

Look at the lone Ohio county with a majority of soda drinkers....Athens County>WE ARE SHOWING OUR EAST COAST INFLUNCE

Okie will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the map is based on an on-line survey.

Very few people in Athens County that live more than a quarter-mile from campus have access to an internet connection. The survey shows the East Coast influence on the OU faculty and student body -- not much else.

Here in Southwest Ohio it is always pops and while up at school I always correct the out of state idiots that refer to a pop as soda. I always tell them that if they want to live in the Buckeye state then they need to talk like a Buckeye. I also know lots of people from Hocking and Athens county and they all call it pop as well.

Are you sure its not the in state people who are the idiots? I've never seen any group of people get as pumped up for beer as Buckeye state college students. Then the second they step out of college they settle down and revert back to their conservative upbringing.

And people wonder why so many college graduates leave the state.

And the top 3 counties in the country by educational level are in suburban Washington, DC......

And for comparison purposes percent with Bachelor's Degrees:

131 Prince George's County, MD 27.5
131 Cuyahoga County, OH 27.5

Coke was one of the companies that persuaded Nixon and Kissenger to orchestrate the overthrow of Chile's elected government and install the murderous Pinochet. I'm a Pepsi fan.

Is Freska still around?
