Usual stuff. Some professor is complaining about spending on new turf in ths stadium while the University is making budget cuts in academic areas including eliminating 4 programs and cutting back in others.

First of all, the turf at Kelly/Shorts had to be replaced, for player safety reasons. Second, the new field hockey surface is being taken from a fund that was set aside for such things. This is basically just another salvo in the ongoing athletics/academics debate. Once the State economy starts to perk up again, a lot of the bickering will return to its usual dull roar.

Yes it does. I will always curse that turf taking out Nick Duffy.

I wasn't aware it was the turf that got Duffy; I thought it was at least partly a contact issue. I could swear he was locked up with a blocker when it happened. Then again, if his foot caught while he was trying to shed a blocker...?

Yeah, we've had some professors at UCF (a minority of them, I should add) complain about things like George O'Leary's salary and the cost of exiting the MAC and the Atlantic Sun to enter Conference USA. Never mind that the athletic department does not draw on the academic budget to support itself.

Georgia State just pulled out of the cr@phole known as the A-Sun, too. They're joining the Colonial. Same deal: some profs are complaining about the costs, saying that the athletic program is a revenue drain.

Well, duh! Go figure that no one wants to see Belmont or Jacksonville come to town!
