Well put, Falcon Freak. Frankly, this continuing "theme" on MAC attendance is getting tiresome. Yes, we all wish we had bigger fan bases, yes, we know we'd have more bowl bids if we did, but reality is that MAC schools do grow up in the shadow of the B10 (and ND), and that's the way it is. They have bigger budgets, and kids grow up in the midwest seeing those games on TV, hence the MAC does not develop large fan bases among the general population.
I know 'cause I grew up in Cincy (guess that's a given, eh?), and knew little about Miami football even though I only lived a little over an hour away. My Dad was a Michigan fan (my family was from Mich and my Dad's brother was an Engineering School grad of UM), and I actually like UC basketball.
I began rooting for Miami in HS after I attended their summer basketball camp, and in fact thought of Miami as more of a hoops school than a football school until I attended.
So, what's my point? Our schools have a certain (finite) fan base.......when we win, we do better, but overall it appears that most MAC schools will not have average attendance much over the low to mid-20's. (maybe Marshall/UT can get into the upper 20's most years). It doesn't mean that our athletic departments won't try to do better, but it gets real old hearing how crappy our crowds are........personally, I think NIU has done a fabulous job supporting the Huskies this year, and have come "light years" from a decade ago. And, better yet, the MAC is the best overall that it's ever been, with a half dozen excellent teams this year. The poorer performing MAC teams will have to improve or face expulsion from the ranks of IA, so there's not much there to debate.
So, talk about the attendance all you want, but to me it's usually a "smoke screen" from certain fans unhappy with other things, like their respective teams losing that week, etc.
