It does not take much to impress you - a win over a tem raveged by injuries who has struggled to beat Buffalo and Florida Atlantic anda team that got waxed by Kent State and Ohio.
5-3 is where this team should be, now the Zips have to do something over the next 4 weeks which they have failed to do for 9 years, beat teams who have good records.
The total record for Akron opponents this season is a joke... a combined 20-35. If you take out the 1-AA opposition it is even worse, 14-28.
Miami, 6-1 > Zips lose
Wisconsin, 6-2 > Zips lose
Kent State, 3-5, Zips lose
UCF, 2-5 > Zips win
EMU, 1-7 > Zips win
Buffalo, 0-8 > Zips win
Howard (1-AA), 2-4 > Zips win
Cal-Poly (1-AA), 4-3 > Zips win
Akron U is exactly where most people thought they would be after 8 games, 5-3. Trade UCF and Kent and the outcomes were expected.
Can Akron U win on the road against UConn (5-3 this season as a 1-A independent)?
Can Akron U win on the road at Marshall (4-3 this season)?
Can Akron U win on the road at CMU? (2-5 this season)
Will Akron close strong and win at home over Ohio University (2-5 this season)?
There is no reason the Zip team cannot win 3 of these final 4 games. In fact based on theway Marshall played against Buffalo there is no reason why Akron should not win there either. Two of the remaining teams have only won two games and are not as talented. The talent is there - no question. Is the coaching?
An 8-4 record should be EXPECTED from a group as talented as the Zip team. No injuries of note this season and the team has confidence heading into the home stretch.
To lose 5 games with the easiest schedule in the nation would be a bad sign for this program. To fall to 6-6 or 5-7 would be unacceptable.
Prove me wrong guy and I will fade away. Until you win one that people think you should not the questions will remain.
UConn is not a good team. If they have to go to OT at Kent to win they are a joke. If the KSU game was a fluke here is the chance to prove it. :)
My bet is on 6-6 with losses at UConn, Marshall, and at CMU.
