Mike said last night that MU leaving the MAC wouldn't make a bit of difference. Maybe he is right but maybe he isn't. If the number and type of postings on this board are any indication, it looks as though it will make a big difference. Just seeing what they rest of the MACsters think?

A lot of Herd fans took exception to Gottfried's comments, but according to DShoe (ESPN Exec, Marshall grad, C-USA "super-supporter" and resident expert on most everything to do with college football) Gottfried is actually very supportive of Marshall, and has said complimentary things about them. I think Mike was suggesting that even w/o Marshall, the MAC has a good, regional conference with long-standing rivalries, plus we have a number of programs that are excelling right now, which makes the loss of Marshall much more transparent. We'll also seen programs like BG, NIU, and Miami make great strides in attendance, which is also encouraging. 04-rock

He also pointed out that the MAC has three teams in the BCS standings...and none of them are named "Marshall". Who needs a bunch of cheaters? Well, C-USA obviously does. For the last few years of their existence, anyway. 03-lol

Losing Marshall takes away one competitive team from the MAC. That, obviously, weakens the conference somewhat. But the conference is still strong, still has good teams, and our level of exposure and fan support has never been higher. That will not change without Marshall.

A few years ago it would have hurt the MAC, but I don't think it will anymore. Several teams are just as good as Marshall, if not better, now.

And you can't go by what you see on a message board as an indication.

You hit the nail on the head here. Marshall would be in the BE, Toledo in the B10, and MUr in the Ivy League if the internet was any type of indicator. I personally think the move will benefit both the MAC and Marshall. BG, NIU,MUr, and UT are now clearly the head of the class after MU leaves. 14 to 12 teams, regional rivalries, I think Marshall was never a long term fit for the MAC and vice versa. Marshall helped some MAC football programs realize that they shouldn't always view themselves as little brothers to the BIG 10 (if only their fans start to believe this also) and helped market MAC football (explosive and high powered vs 3yrds and a cloud of dust). In return, the MAC provided MU a stage to showcase our commiment to becoming a big time college football program. I think our long term goals differ but shorterm we are all after the same thing MACC!

GO HERD!

The only team with legitimate smack-talking rights against Marshall is Toledo. It's the only team that has been competitive since Marshall rejoining the league, with Marshall holding a 4-3 edge since '97. The other games have been lopsided, with Miami beating Marshall in '97, BUGS upsetting Marshall in '98, and NIU going "O-fer" against the Herd.

How could anyone say, with a straight face, these teams are Marshall's better or equal?

Add to those records the conference's only legitimate Heisman candidates, more television appearances than the rest of the conference combined, the best fan support by far, the most recognized name, the nation's longest bowl winning streak, the only team in the league to go bowling EVERY year . . . (christ, why am I even arguing this?)

Because you're a moron and you want to make sure that you remind us of that fact as often as possible.

Thanks, I appreciate it and I'm sure the others on the board do also 04-bow

Herdfanfrom Ohio: One of the most balanced posts by a Marshall fan regarding the conference split, although I guess in the beginning I would've thought that the MAC and Marshall would be a long-term fit. As events have unfolded, it's best for Marshall and their fans to go to C-USA, and the MAC will be fine as well.

Toledo vs. Marshall. Toledo holds a 22-18-1 edge. The conference existed before we let Marshall's renegade program back in. You have to wonder how lopsided that record would be if not for the FACT that Marshall cheated their way to some extra wins that they didn't deserve.

History is all fine and dandy, but it doesn't tell you a whole lot about today. NIU is 0-2 against the Herd since each rejoined the MAC, but one was against a horrendous NIU team and the other was against a mediocre NIU team. This year's team is far from mediocre and even farther from horrendous, so the fact that you beat us 3 and 6 years ago is irrelevant in looking at today and into the future.

Oddball...............if we decide to go by the nature of a post, you would definately be a good fit for a KEYSTONE BEER commercial. You could be the guy with the "BITTER BEER FACE"............cause your posts are just that ........BITTER! It looks like you are gonna have some serious withdrawals when MU leaves........I hope you don't shake too long.

I didn't mean too stir up all the emotions and hatred, I was trying to get some serious thought as to where the MAC would be in 10-15 years down the road without Marshall and how each would propsper or not. But thanks, I was unaware of the overall series record between the two schools. I have a lot of friends who are Toledo, Miami, and Ohio grads. I am sure gonna miss the ribbing we give each other after MU is in CUSA. They are some class acts and don't villianize other instutions like you have chosen to do. Obviously no school or university is perfect, each produce or employee some bad apples. I guess my friends will continue to be a good apples of their respected institutions and now I have realized who the bad bitter apple of the bunch is!

Not sure what you're question is referring to as BCS record? But we finished the 99 season ranked 10th in the Nation.

I'm bitter for posting Marshall's record vs. UT? Or, am I bitter because I pointed out that it's a documented fact that Marshall had to cheat and still has less wins in the series? Good thing I didn't point out that both the historical and more recent records are tainted due to Marshall's documented cheating...you'd really have a low opinion of me.

wahhh, wahhh, wahhh ...... drivel , drivel, drivel......our little fella is like a programmed machine..............."oh no a marshall poster, i must attack, let me use the word *****, or remind them of that meaningless 42-0 victory over them the year we went 10-1 and didn't go bowling but Marshall did, or if that doesn't work, let's tell them that they somehow cheated to get where they are, even though they have been punished by the NCAA and still continue to win, and if that doesn't work, i will just fall back to my patented move of name calling or launch a personal attack.......hey maybe one of these days someone will take my offer and want to be my *****......oh i could only dream."

your broken record is getting old oddball!!!

Glad you are taking the time to lurk at HerdNation oddball and take interest in my personal life........i love the attention!!! Get your facts straight before you start making personal attacks too. Don't take someone elses statement as gospel. If you want to make personal attacks, then get your facts straight, but i forgot that is not you method of operation. What do you bring to this board or any board? Out of all of your posts, ive never seen any insight to football or the topics presented, all you are good for is making personal attacks and smack talk, and you are not really good at that.........if i were you i would follow your true calling and call barnum and bailey up and join the circus.........they say there is someone for everyone, and there are bearded midget ladies in the circus.........now go find em. chump

If you remember the incident so well, then why don't you tell me EXACTLY what it was Goofball. The only reason you think you remember is because DevilGrad just brought up some false accusations on Herdnation the other day............you don't remember a thing.......matter of fact there was not much to remember.
