I think the year where UT averaged upwards of 40K in a 26K seat stadium and couldn't muster 10K against a ranked team for the conference championship was when we got suspicious.
Frauds.
A classic (though poor) example of exageration so as to illustrate a point (assuming there is one, of course).

EMU might want to consider 1-AA, but I couldn't disagree more about WMU. Can any other MAC team claim to play a more difficult schedule than the Broncos? Add the schedule on top of the fact that we lost over half of our original starters on defense...well you get this type of result. You might want consider taking some time away from the Drano drinkers on BI.

NIU is a perfect example,BG, Miami, Toledo,Ball State,UCF,and Marshall have IMO played tougher schedules :)

I'm wrong. NIU does have a tougher schedule than WMU. And I'd say we're about even with Toledo.
IMO, I'd rather have the every other schedule that you had mentioned.

Supposedly Buffalo has played the 14th toughest schedule in the country thus far. Iowa, Marshall, Miami, NIU, Toledo, UConn & Akron are all bowl eligible. I didn't research this so I'm just repeating what I heard.
Anyway, good game EMU....I watched some of it and was happy you guys won.

The Knight Time Wrote:5K is even way inflated. Seriously you'd have to see it on tv to believe it. I've never seen a game like that. There was NO ONE there. I've never seen a more empty stadium. There is no doubt that they had less than 1500 fans there. Maybe they count the teams, trainers, band, press, announcers, refs, and the people walking outside.
What is it with you people who watch games on TV then go ahead and make what you believe to be accurate attendance counts? Two of the most underattended games I went to this year have been yesterday's FUC @ EMU and Toledo @ Ball St, the crowd yesterday was slightly smaller than the crowd at Ball st, and that game had reported attendance of about 10,000(which I still find hard to believe) but 5000 for the EMU game sounds about right.
Congrats to the Hurons, they showed the tanned prima donnas what midwestern football was all about yesterday.

I didn't say WMU should consider Div 1-AA. I said if WMU was in the exact same position as EMU (umpteen consecutive losing seasons + bottom of the conference in attendance), I'd expect us to review our standing in Div 1-A. But we're not in the same boat.

Okay, my two cents worth.
I was at the game at EMU yesterday. I also watched a tape of the broadcast later. Attendance was probably in 4,000 range. TV made it look a lot worse. First, most of the shots showed the "visiting" side of the stands which were populated only by the band and a few UCF fans. Second, it was cold as hell! Temps were in the 30s and the wind chill was a lot worse.
As for attendance, 1AA and of all this other stuff...please, folks, if your program had suffered through 8 consecutive losing seasons with diminishing returns every year in the win column over the past 4-5 years, the temps were freezing and a non-contender was in town, how much would your attendance be? I know BUGS, NIU and others suffered attendance wise during lean years.
That said, there is actually an air of optimisim on campus thanks to the dismissal of coach Oodruff (we have officially removed the "W" from his name, because, as we all know, there is no "W" when it comes to Woodruff). To see the excitement and happiness that those kids on that team finally could have was great. They doused interim coach Lavan with the Gatorade bucket and were finally able to feel good about themselves. They showd they can beat a 1A opponent. We also saw what happens when you cut the cancer out of a program.
We will be fine. Will we win the MAC next year? No. But, things are going to be okay. We are not going down to 1AA. Nor do we want to.
Let us just enjoy this win for once without the attendance cracks and 1AA remarks.

The thing I've always heard from MAC and EMU folks (and I like EMU in the MAC, a lot BTW), is that EMU has an uphill battle in football, being so close to Ann Arbor.
I'm sure that's an issue, but does the administration have any solution for it? I'm sure you don't schedule home games the same weekend as Michigan (that's a no-brainer).
Just some thoughts (and I'm serious about this):
1) Promote EMU at U of M -- how about fliers with students handing out outside football games with something like, "Hey, THIS IS NOT THE ONLY GAME IN TOWN!" Or, even do some joint promotions where a Michigan ticket gets you an EMU ticket half-price. I don't know, there has to be some way to work being so close to U of M to your advantage.
2) Give away tickets as promotions for local radio stations.
3) Do what Brad Bates at Miami did, and write personal letters to all former football players, urging them to order season tickets (even if they can't use them). You could urge current season ticket holders to order more tickets, too, and give the remaining ones to Boys Club/Girls Club and Big Brothers/Big Sisters (that's what I do with my tickets I can't use -- tax deduction for face-value, baby!).
4) Concerts after the game? Big names, of course.
5) Win some more football games!!!! Congrats on beating UCF! I watched the whole thing, your team played inspired football. I've never seen a Tim Rose defense play that well.

You're right about the attendance part - this is not the time to be judging attendance of unsuccessful teams.
But this is why EMU is no good at FB:
Quote:They doused interim coach Lavan with the Gatorade bucket and were finally able to feel good about themselves.
They win a game and they try to give the coach pneumonia and kill him! :D

My bad Motown. I totally misread what you said. I guess that's what happens when you're trying to feed an infant and read a message board at 2:30 in the morning...

Nice suggestion Dodo and you are right about the tax deduction. As a former BBBS Director, I can let you know how much this means to the local chapter. The agency will glady right you a letter recognizing your gift and noting the tax deductible amount.
Big Brothers Big Sisters (no slash in the name anymore) in your local areas can always use tickets for the kids and adults in the program. Many events are willing to give youth tix, but the adults wind up paying for theirs. A small donation by you can mean a lot to the volunteers who give a huge amount of their time and ask nothing in return.
