MacLord Wrote:That's all part of the wacky world of MACbbs, though. But what I find objectionable is using one's moderating power as a real or implied threat when the arguments get a little heated. Dodo did this during his argument on the Zips board and does again here. He can say he may not have started the arguments, but when the Zips fans battled back, they met with threats.

On this we are all in agreement: May the Zips hire a kickarse coach and get the Rubber City people excited about their football team. A healthy Akron program is good for the MAC.

PS: Please don't ban me. I love you all.
MacLord:

With all due respect, first of all, I didn't threaten to ban anyone. I threatened to delete their posts -- not because they disagree with me. That is fine and dandy, and I wouldn't expect an Akron fan to agree with me on much. What I object to is an attack on the personal integrity of another poster (DG), a personal attack on a long-time MAC and HawkTalk poster and fan (DICK), and (less so) being called a "Dick." I would say all of the above CLEARLY violate the AUP.

The other moderators and I have consistently deleted personal attacks, whether they came from Akron fans, Marshall fans, Toledo fans, or whatever. We will continue to do so.

I don't know if you were around for the "old" SportsOnly days, but it got gawd awful over there. Most people had no desire to read or post, anymore, and I think we moved the board three or four times, progressively increasing the moderating abilities of the board.

All things considered, I think this board is one of the best and most civil conference boards out there. I'd like it to stay that way.

Did I cross the line on that thread on the Akron board?

Yeah, I probably did -- not as a fan, but as a moderator. I should be above that level of smack. But, hey, I'm as passionate a fan as anyone on here. And I'm a HUGE MAC fan. I'll admit, the needless attacks against Miami and her fans on the Akron board peeved me.

In any case, I wish Akron the best in finding a good, new coach. I would love to see their program compete with Miami (but lose to Miami) for the East title every year.

Hey, and ain't it great that we have a thread with 81 posts about Akron? Who'da thunk it? We used to only have one Akron fan on the MAC board. 04-bow

Nice point OlZip. All the good assistants have a chance to stay. Hell, I heard the new head coach at UA is supposed to have Ohio ties, giving coaches like stacy and tracey a chance to stay because of how long they have been in ohio.

Let's just hope good things unfold!

GO ZIPS!!

P.S. ViennaPhantom, I like your attitude man, welcome aboard!

AO. EQB. VF.

How many names can one person have?

He's gone. There is nothing we can do about it.

It's time to get a coach that realizes a 7-5 season is a down year, instead of a good one. Especially with the weakest SOS in the country.

It's funny how anyone can think 7-5 is a good year.

I agree. As a Kent alum, I also believe that a strong Akron program will only make Kent better. Because the two schools recruit from the same region and share the same market, Kent will have to keep pace with Akron should the former find the latter

I am sorry but I do need to weigh in on this Master Dodo deal, er excuse me Mr. Bennet Cerf (the Moderator). Quite frankly, your holier than thou attitude sucks.

You did threaten to delete Z-P's posts and probably will include me in that threat. but golly I need to remember to check my work or you will attack my spelling, gheesh.

So why are you complaining about the number of posts relating to Akron and the Lee Owens thing Oh Holy Father? Oh I get it, Akron being located in the bowels of Ohio is not quite as nice as downtown Oxford Ohio??? Whatever!

Lighten up Master Dodo and get a friggin life. And, BTW I really would rather have a dead rat in my mouth than read how you question my loyalty to where I went to college/played football/buy season tickets/be a fan of. Your opinion is like an a**hole, you have one and it smells.

Sorry, this is not personal.
(I am leaving for a trip to the sun in a garbage truck tomorrow too!)

Zip Dude, I agree completely with your analysis. Dodo has way overstepped the boundry between moderator and fan. In my time on this board I have seen far worse than what he is complaining about in regards to personal insults. He is just acting like a 3 year old and threatening to take his toys and go home because someone hurt his feelings. :chair:

Hey, I've got an idea!
Why don't you all go play here for awhile!
Before you stop, though, how about giving each other a nice big group hug!

(Everyone seems to have said what they want to say about each other here, but feel free to keep repeating it, over and over, until you fall asleep.)

No, I'm threatening (actually, promising) to delete posts where there are personal attacks and foul-language name-calling. If you don't like that, you can, indeed, take it elsewhere.

I don't see anything on here that says I can't be a fan, express my opinion, and disagree with someone when I think they are making stuff up, exaggerating, or stating something that isn't true.

I'm not "taking my toys" anywhere. I'm staying right here. You can "take your toys" wherever you'd like.

It should not be a big secret by now that I'm not a big Lee Owens fan, but it seems to me, neither were a lot of Zip fans big Lee Owens fans. It also should be clear that I have a big problem with people who went to MAC schools cheering for Ohio State, Michigan, etc... at the expense of their alma mater. That is WRONG, and it captures everything that's wrong with MAC football. Not sure how that's crossing any sort of line on the MAC BOARD.

And believe me, I don't get my "feelings hurt" by anything some sock puppet says on an internet message board.

Dodo, I share your sentiments exactly. As an Ohioan who was born and raised in southeastern Ohio until I moved to Columbus when I was about 13 years old, I have always loved the MAC and have despised Ohio State and its fans for their condescending attitude toward everyone else.

While living in Zanesville, my loyalties were first with OU because of regional pride. As a boy, I didn't understand why people who lived in S.E. Ohio would favor OSU over OU. After moving to Columbus, I always kept my strong loyalty to OU until I went to Kent. As an Ohioan, I have always been proud that most of the members of the MAC are Ohio schools.

Fans who attend or graduated from MAC schools but cheer for OSU at their schools expense have every right to do so, but I am not one of them. However, having watched Archie Griffen play in high school, I followed his success while he was at Ohio State and was delighted when he won the Heisman Trophy two consecutive years.

Go MAC!!!

Go Kent!!!
