Right now, there is a lot of negative feedback with the release of LO as head coach. Next year will be terrible, and I can care less if Frye stays or goes. It will be a rebuilding year that will prove to begrowing pains, but the outcome will be good in the end. There are many signs that convince me that Akron will get where it wants to go.
1. The Kent Game - After the 2003 season, the MAC was shocked to see two lowsy teams draw 27k for a game. The rivalry with Kent State has been revived by moving the game. This was a great idea on the part of the two schools. Every college football college football team needs a rival. Its what its all about.
2. New Facilities - Akron has the worst facilities in the MAC, right? Not after this year. In May, one of the finest indoor facilities in the midwest will open. Also, Akron will be getting the outdoor facility on campus complete with the same turf as the one in the bowl as well as a field with lights.
3. Improving MAC - The MAC is no longer about riding the coat tails of the big boys. The success of our fellow MAC schools will only help our cause by raising the bar of competition. The MAC is no longer about riding the coat tails of the big boys. Just ask Lee Owens. The administration is now doing something to stop the bleeding and is recognizing the importance of college football to campus.
4. A New Stadium on Campus? - Still a question, but I think it will happen. It is just a matter of when. Akron is already conducting a feasability study, and the university also owns the land needed to contain the facility as well as new dorm towers. A new stadium on campus and in the middle of downtown Akron will do wonders in the attendence numbers.

This new coaching move is critical! We need the right guy to set this program in the direction I described.

GREAT POINT akronzip.

I don't think next year will be that bad of a rebuilding year though. Even with the tougher schedule i still stay we go 6-6 or 7-5 which isnt that bad. We are losing some key offensive players but we have 7 coming back on defense.

Great point on the facillities because they are something special and we are now going to be at the top of the MAC, not the bottom.(Even though we are lacking an on campus stadium).

GO ZIPS!!!!!!!!

What I noticed about Akron was that they have almost zero student fan base - which is really sad. An on campus stadium would help out mucho!
