At least according to this thread on hawktalk, if you buy season tickets next year at Miami (OH), you get free GMAC tickets. Season tickets are $60 or $70 depending on whether or not you live in Butler County. If free GMAC tickets are included, that means the university will only be getting $15 to $25 from each season ticket purchaser. (I'm going to assume that you only get the GMAC tickets if Miami (OH) actually gets the GMAC bid next year). Still, how in the world can they afford to do this?

Marshall sells some discounted tickets in the end zone and we sold tickets sent back by Ohio for 10 bucks but I ain't never got no discount with my season tickets.

A few years back all conference schools had to buy tickets to prevent Marshall from taking a bath on the MCB. I think Marshall may have to buy some tickets to help Miami out this year. :D

Maybe I didn't make myself clear. The free GMAC tickets are to the 2004 GMAC bowl. At least that's my reading of the post on hawktalk.

But, while we're on the subject of season tickets, here's what I can find regarding prices:

1. Akron - $40 - $66
2. Ball State - $35 - $50
3. Bowling Green - $48 - $90
4. Buffalo - $50 - $85
5. CMU - $80 - $90
6. Central Florida - $30 - $85 (certain section require additional $100 donation)
7. EMU - $21 - $119
8. Marshall - $65 - $220 (Certain sections require an additional $25 per seat donation. Other sections require an additional $50 per seat donation. Chairbacks require $300 per seat donation).
9. Miami (OH) - ??? (can't find the prices online)
10. Northern Illinois - ??? (can't find the prices online)
11. Ohio U - $45 - $75 (certain seats require $150 per seat donation)
12. Toledump - $124
13. Kent - $46 -$88
14. WMU - $84 - $132

It's true, at least it was for me.

Miami is trying to build up our season ticket base - in years past we would have games wiht attendance in the high 20's and below 10 in the same year.

Season tickets this year were $65 a ticket for me, but if I had bought the same seats individually for each game it would have been $115. So they have been giving significant discounts to season ticket holders for years.

I don't know about this promotion, I appreciate the offer, but I was going to the GMAC regardless. It seems like they are giving the perk to current fans and not as an incentive to new fans. They do get the time value of money I guess and I have bought tickets for next year regardless of who we play at home and what Roethlisberger does.

Still I have had season tickets for 6 years and I certainly wasn't going to cancel them now.

Because of the contract with the MAC for something like 25K tickets aren't all MAC schools on the Hook for 1,000 Tix? In past years this was the case with the MCB and some schools flooded the Market two weeks before the MCB with $5 tickets to defer some of this cost. I think what Miami is doing is better for them and the MAC. At least you know they won't flood the market with cheap tix if they don't go to the GMAC Bowl next year.

At Toledo you also have to give at least $500 to get a parking pass in front of the stadium. That's in addition to the season tickets. Used to be $100, but some big donors got mad when they got to the stadium 15 minutes before kick-off and couldn't find a parking spot.

FWIW, NIU's tickets are $13 and $20 per game, if memory serves. So, depending on where you sit, season tix would probably be between $75 - $125. That's based on my last trip to Dekalb in 2001, however, so it may have changed...

Also FWIW, BSU's season ticket prices reflect a nice discount off the single-game prices, as all good season ticket packages should. This year, a reserved season ticket package would save you $22 per person over the single game price, and a general admission season package would save you $7 over the regular price. It's one of the best values in college football, even with our lousy play in recent years.

Also, I do believe that parking passes in the Cardinal or Gold lots adjacent to the West Grandstand at Ball State Stadium requires an additional donation to the Cardinal Varsity Club.

And you have to give $250 just to get a parking spot near Savage Hall and walk for 10 minutes.

You know if Toledo charged what most of the MAC schools do, we would probably have 30K for every game easily.

Season tix at UT this past year were either the $124 you quoted, or $129...I've forgotten which. However, much like at Marshall, "premium seating" means an extra donation. It's done on a different basis though. You can get seats in some sections for an additional $100 donation; in other sections for a $300 donation; still others for $500; and others for an additional $1000. These donations allow you to buy as many as 4 tickets in that section. If you want more tix, the donation increases. For this donation, you also get parking passes in certain lots, again determined by donation level. There are a few other benefits attached to these donations as well. Guess I don't see why we're going to take "bath". The facts are that we're on the "Hook" for 7500 tickets to the GMAC, a midweek, pre-Xmas bowl during our finals. So, the real discounting here is on our season tix, and we really want to get our base up. Unlike Marshall, we only have 3K season tix, and our great attendance this year was due to students and single game purchases. Building on our success this year, it's a great idea to work to expand our season ticket base, and if the financials work out, our first phase of our stadium renovations will be completed for next season.

I'm very excited about the GMAC bowl, mostly for our players and Coaches............for the average Miami fan, the GMAC is a tough bowl to go to (I cannot, although I would have attended the MCB, due to work schedules that week, as I have to be on the East Coast on business), and hence I applaud any and all efforts our school makes to get fans to the game and make a good showing.

eCK is on the mark. We've already had to purchase 7,500 tickets, so the University is just writing that up as a loss. From an accounting standpoint, we've paid $70 for our season tickets and gotten a free ticket to the GMAC.

Why do some apologize for your administration giving the fans good deals on tickets, and some brag about your administration ripping you off on ticket prices? I always though a low ticket price was a good ticket price.
