Yet, there they are in the same division with rapidly improving Memphis, traditionally successful East Carolina and deep-pocketed Central Florida.

Dodo Wrote:Well, as far as I'm concerned all this MAC v. C-USA bickering (and I've been as guilty of it as anyone) is folly. The two conferences (aside from the distance between C-USA schools) are more alike than different, and they should work together to get common goals accomplished (i.e., changing the BCS, getting more TV time, attracting more TV time, etc...). Until the non-BCS conferences act in concert, I don't think a lot is going to change.

Do your own research. Bowling Green (Torch's team) has a solid football history, including rankings, and certainly has outperformed ECU recently.
I'm not sure what the "girls" reference was about, but BG won the MAC in women's basketball this season.

I guess they beat Miami in the semis, then. Thanks for the correction. I think it was softball where BG edged Miami for the NCAA berth.

CUSA has four schools in Texas and two schools in states bordering Texas. Humm that makes six and there are six other schools that have at least a state between them and Texas.
Just how would he have wanted the divisional alignment to be?
Or could it be the coaches have pointed out to him that they ain't gonna win as many games being in the tough division so he's softening up the fans.

Ohio Stadium had a track until a few years ago. Would you call that high schoolish? I've been to UB, and they have a very nice stadium, and being pushed away from the field by the track is only a minor annoyance. The football team might not get it done on the field, but no one can complain about the adminstration's efforts in becoming a quaility D-1 program.

You just cannot say enough bad things about OSU's decision to take Jesse Owens's track out of the Horseshoe. That was arguably the single most historic landmark on that campus.

OSU has an absolutely georgeous new Jesse Owens Memorial Complex Something or Other. I assume its for track and field (I only pass it on the freeway; I've never stopped).
That's a more than fitting replacement for the Ohio Stadium track -- which did make it difficult to see.
If the Berlin Olympic Stadium was on OSU's campus -- then, yeah, I could see the point of not tearing out *that* track.

Anything not just like Marshall must be degraded. Anything that is like them just proves that they are copying Marshall out of envy and jealousy.
Them's the rules.

You just got hint #1 of what we've known in the MAC for quite some time: Marcum's a clown.

yeah, actually I would have. smart move on their part, helps to promote football when football is your intention. how many recruits do you think are gonna come in and think of how nice it looks to have a track circling THEIR playing arena, kinda screws with the scene. if this is not a problem, then forgive me, but there must have been reasoning with people who at least had thoughts the same as the ones I have or those tracks would still circle stadiums such as the one ohio had.

Fair enough.
Amazingly, this has turned into a decent thread. Some of you even have senses of humor!
Again, good luck to y'all. I'll be pulling for you against the dreaded BCS, and also the MWC.

The Knight Time Wrote:HuskieDan Wrote:The Knight Time Wrote:UCF had numerous seasons where we went 9-2, 8-4, 8-3, or 7-5. All of which would have given us a bowl bid in CUSA. I rest my case.
But you weren't, so you didn't. Tough luck, eh?
Interesting that it takes Marshall exactly negative 13 months to start trying to take charge of CUSA. I can't say that I'm remotely surprised.
My point was that we had many seasons with 9,8,or 7 wins in a season with no bowl because of being Indy.
So, it's unfair to criticize us for not being in a bowl yet.
But it IS fair for you to criticize Toledo for the same thing. Geography and Ippoliti are the reasons we only had one bowl. If CUSA was "norther" than the MAC, the MAC would have more bowls. If we had Chryst before our last expansion, we might have had 4-5 bowls right now.
Decide which side of your mouth you will be speaking from and stick to it.
CUSA is roughly equal to the MAC in terms of football prowess. Period. The MAC has a better top end and a worse bottom. The rest is just perception.
I would love to hear a neutral observer give his/her take (an expert or someone familiar with college football who would be willing to listen to each side and give a better answer.)

But those tracks are, I would guess, NEVER removed just to "make the arena look nicer for recruits". They're removed to allow the university to add seats and make more money and nothing more.

Yeah, Ohio State really has the reputation for losing recruits. Heck, can't think of any recruits these guys pulled in while having that eyesore track. Definitely held them back.

you may have hit the nail on the head. its all about money, but to make money, people have to come and watch. if people are going to come and watch, you have to be competitive if you aren't BCS, making my point valid as well. so maybe its a combination of yours and mine, would make sense.
