Rocketfootball-
The Glory years of Rocket Football 69,70,71 - Ancient History
Lets recap: Princeton is declared national champs for the 12th time by the college football researchers, Yale players win 2 of the first 3 Heisman Awards, Army is undefeated back to back National Champions, and Toledo has 3 very good seasons in a row. - Ancient History
Relevance to college football today? On a scale from 1-10 at most a 2.
But I will give the Rockets their due. They are now feared more than the other 3 teams that were mentioned in this modern era of football. They were MAC champs in 2001 04-bow

Marshall has been a IA MAC team now for the last 7 seasons - champion 5 times 04-bow 04-bow 04-bow 04-bow 04-bow
And yes Marshall DID have to win games on the road to get to all of those. Something even some of the better, more recent, Toledo teams failed to do.
I actually respect the accomplishments of the Toledo and Miami programs. I have no trouble just conceeding that you are occassionally the better team. It's a shame that you can't conceed the same about the Herd instead of making every excuse you can to cover your losses to them: They cheated, they played at home, they bugged the locker room, the crown on the field was too high, they got their regular locker room, the officials gave them the game, their fans were rude - just thought I'd save you some time.

Well, Blevins, I won't make excuses (although I admit I didn't like the two last second interference calls in H-ton last season!), but I will say that the Herd has its share of obnoxious fans (not you!). I was one of those long-standing MAC fans very happy when the Herd re-joined in 97, and until I began perusing these i-net boards didn't realize what disdain most Herd fans had for the teams and conference I had been following for a quarter century. It was, and is, annoying. Add in the "Johnny come lately's" guys from DisneyLand, and it's a bit too much to endure. (you know the guys that said: "Hey, let's change the name of the conference" or, "who do we kick out?", and "we only are worried about OOC games?", etc., etc.)

Blevins, you are a good poster and I'm not trying to annoy you, but I think you and many Herd fans are wrong if you think most MAC fans were pre-disposed to dislike the Herd. Sure, there are some big differences here on the board, but I don't think they represent the average fan or alum at all for the most part.

One last comment if you'll indulge me: the MAC has always been a "little guy" in the world of college sports, esp. hoops and football. Most of us get great personal satisfaction knowing that even though our programs do things "the right way" and spend 1/4 of the budget, despite the disparity in funding and recruiting budgets we can occasionally knock those "big guys" off their perch, and it's damned satisfying. I take almost as much pride is seeing UT, BG, or BSU (and yes, Marshall) knock those guys off. But guess what? Marshall and their fans are not what I'd call "team players". Your fans and now obviously your administration don't "give a rip" about the MAC, and you look at your accomplishments as being made DESPITE the handicap of MAC affiliation. So be it. You guys are dissatified, and that's fine. You're moving on to C-USA. But I do find it kind of amusing that many of you "cry foul" when the remaining dedicated members don't want to help glorify a C-USA program by allowing you to have one of our precious 2 bowl spots next season. I mean, I expect the conference to follow the rules and all, but why in the world should they be looking out for ex-members of the conference that have done nothing but express disdain (either by words or actions) for this conference.

Sorry for the rant..........it's late and I should go to bed! :snore:

We own Marshall. You can't even beat Toledo by cheating anymore. Good thing you get the likes of Rice from here on out. 03-nutkick

How do you root for such a classless, renegade cheating program, btw? Most folks would feel sick all of the time if they knew that their alma mater was so scummy.
Good thing you have the likes of Ohio and Buffalo.

You forget, the Rockets OWN Marshall.

Oh, and Marshall DOES cheat.

Both statements are FACTS.

Rice, pookie...you're joining a conference with Rice. They have the double whammy effect of dragging down your SOS while simultaneously making your academics look sick. Enjoy! 03-lol

Oh Odd.........as the Prez Ronnie Reagan would have said - "There you go again" exhibiting your obsession with Marshall. What WILL you do once we're gone??? I would suggest counseling now so you'll be more prepared when the reality hits. Now, I have just earned myself a smirky comeback from Odd & a quick hit from the Queen herself!! What a way to begin the day..........

Go HERD!!!

I think whoever it is that keeps violating the AUP ought to be permanently banned from the site.

It's not right to only ban Herd fans that are doing it.

Actually, KT, you and Marshall have Ohio and Buffalo, at least regularly. We only get them occasionally here in the West - you get them every year. Yet, the Knights didn't seem to be able to take advantage of that this year. :chair:

Actually, it was a Herd fan's post I had to delete in this case, but not a poster who has done so excessively. No need to ban, I don't think, though it's ultimately not a mod's decision anyway. There are insulting and personal comments that we live with in the tiresome (to me) one-upmanship that is de rigueur 03-wink around here, but then there are blatently crude and offensive posts that go over the line.
In my short tenure as mod, I've felt the need to delete about an equal number of UT and Marshall fans posts--far more than any other schools. Maybe one each from 4 or 5 other schools' fans. Maybe other mods experiences are different.

Of the UT posts you've had to delete........how many different posters did that include? I'd be suprised if the answer is anything other than one.

As best as I remember, at least 3 actually. Similar to MUg. However, one must admire the patience and tolerance of the NCAbbs Admins that the most notorious of the posters--one from each school--are still around.
